*wipes tears of laughter from eyes*
I don't know why that typo struck me as so funny . . . might have had something to do with that second glass of ?
Wasn't marriage initiated as an arrangement of convenience? At any rate, it has gone through many changes over the centuries.
Now that you have reached the 'age of nostalgia' Noggin, do you find that people don't even expect you to ever be anything but single? Okay, I know that you are *older* than me but I sometimes get that feeling. Plus I live with cats, which doesn't help with the stereotype any.

Yes I read that, and I wondered why no one had picked it up straight away
Anyway, I'm now single. But I won't do the test again just yet as I can't think that I've changed much in the last couple of days.

hi Grey Desk,
Are you okay? It's often hard to know whether people who have just split up are broken hearted or relieved. Sometimes they are both. Anyhow . . .
Planning to get some cats?

Cheers az, I'm fine
I learnt a valuable lesson not so long ago that if a relationship really isn't going the way that you had hoped it would go, then you need to do something about it, and do so quickly. In the past I was always one for letting things drift and just ending up in a worse mess.
Well, whilst I liked her company and was very fond of her, I knew I wasn't in love, nor would I be. At that point it was only right for both of us to make a change. There you go, it don't always work out...
And no, no cats for me. I've had some, shall we say, 'difficult' experiences with cats . Dogs on the other hand would be great, but my time away from the home with my job, it just wouldn't be fair on the beasties

I agree with you and that's my problem too, I would drift in and let it drift never really able to make a decision... not a good thing. In every other aspects in life I can come up with decisions, I would call myself being decisive, but not when it goes to relationships.

Well, drifing always *feels* easier, though in the long run I think it ends up being far more detrimental for everyone involved.
Possibly this is why I have only been the 'dumpee' once. Because I knew that someone had to make a decision and - except for that one time - I seemed to be the only one capable of doing it.

agreed! Drifting is the easy solution and sometimes you have drifted to a place where you don't want to be...

Yesterday I went to the cinema alone and remembered that someone here mentioned this was one of the things about being single that took getting used to. But I have always enjoyed going to the cinema on my own. I mean, it *is* a solitary activity, after all. And sometimes, especially if the film was very good, I prefer to walk out of the cinema quietly mulling it all over than immediately have someone ask me - 'so, what did you think?'
Likewise with going to art galleries and museums. I prefer either going alone or else splitting up with the person I go with and meet up with them later.
Things I don't like doing alone are going out for a proper meal (though breakfast and tapas are fine - I usually bring a book or newspaper with me) or sitting in a bar just to have a drink.

As I have to travel alone a lot for business, I can only agree when it goes to dining.
Usually I end up with room service.
Breakfast is ok, and going to a Pub but not in a bar...
