was that Michelle Shocked the Kind Hearted Woman tour? We saw her round about then in Essen or Bochum or somewhere. Absolutely fantastic, especially because of the two fellows from the Hothouse Flowers
which reminds me of another fantastic gig (although the venue was scary): The Hothouse Flowers, sometime around the end of the 80s

I'm not sure that it was the Kind Hearted Woman tour. She did a traditional folkie set and then most of her songs were from her earlier albums. Don't remember the Hothouse Flowers people being there - what did they do?

one played the fiddle and one the flute - they appear on the Arkansas Traveller album (Over the Waterfall is one song that I know of)
They all seemed to be having an absolute ball on stage, it infected the crowd and it was an absolutely fantastic night. I'd seen her before at the Rock am Ring where she was brilliant, but this gig was absloutely awesome.
I'll look at my t-shirt and see if the dates are on there.
Reading back over this thread I can see why I drive a scabby old car... I've spent a fortune on this habit (can hardly call it a hobby at this stage)

not a flute, a penny whistle I think
Your favourite gig: Who, when, where?
Here's her '91 tour dates. The NZ gigs aren't on it but I think it was probably March (she was in Oz then too).

so depressing when you feel the same age inside as you did when you saw a gig 20 years ago -if you know what I mean!

Slade - 1974 Blackpool Opera House (my first gig!)
(Anyone who tells you I saw Lena Zavaroni and Showaddywaddy in the same year, is a liar!)
The Jam - 1980 (I think) Blackpool Opera House
The Smiths - 1983 Blackpool Opera House
Eurythmics - 1990 Wembley Arena (Stunning vocals)
George Micheal - 1991 Wembley Arena ( A brilliant night as it was totally impromptu, I was given free tickets by a chappy I knew who was the lighting engineer and was even invited to an audience with George after the show...I declined.)
Madstock - 1998 Finsbury Park (Stonking day out!)

Finn brothers at Portsmouth Guildhall last summer.
Absolutely amazing. Neil's son (liam) and his friend provided the support-under the name Lester and Osbourne. they were great too.
If you ever get to see them, go. Really amazing stage presence. You'll never forget it.

btw, I'm currently planning a collaborative entry on Free for the guide. If anyone was lucky enough to see them at those Sunderland and Croydon gigs (or esp at the IOW festival) It would be great to hear from you. The relevant conversation is in the Musicians Guild under 'no entry on Free in the guide!'

On the front, can I just say that The Cat Empire will be utterly fantastic on 3rd August 2006, if the last time I saw them is anything to go by!
