Most Common Birthday?

Post 41

Lady Belle

My birthday is right in the middle of the Christmas School holidays here in Australia...and it was terrible! I never had a birthday party because all of my friends would be away on holidays with their parents and thus there were no-one around to have a party with.

Plus having a birthday very early in January is terrible as an adult too. After celebrating Christmas and New Years...well you dont feel like having another party and no, just because your birthday is close to Christmas you dont have more presents. I found it to be the opposite...you seem to receive a lot of combinded presents Christmas/Birthday.

Or simply holdovers from Xmas shopping (or early Xmas gifts, depending on which side of 'close to Xmas' you happen to be).

Its possible to prove that in a group of 30 people there is a greater than 50% chance of two of them sharing the same birthday, assuming every day of the year is equally likely. Can't quite remember how, though...

Jan^

US birthdays in August - sounds like Thanksgiving parties to me - obviously not just giving thanks.
The most popular month in my extended family is May, which I've always subscribed to being relaxed on Summer holidays......
My birthday is in January, so my parents must have had good Easter hols (teachers, you see). Presumably teachers' children tend to be born in Jan, May and September, as the parents are too tired at the other times of the year. Any ideas?
P.S. before you ask, my name has nothing to do with my birth date smiley - winkeye

We did that a couple of weeks ago, in our probability course. I can vaguely remember the proof, but not enough to be able to eplain it to other people. I might dig it out though, if I can be bothered. smiley - smiley

My guess would have to be around mid-January, because that's nine months after most people's senior prom dances are.

I believe we're talking most common bd -worldwide- and that would divide the prom dates (for those who even -have- proms) fairly evenly, I would think. smiley - winkeye

Hmmmmm ........ I am the only fish in my family (what a strain that is!) My parents must have had a happy holiday the previous year - they're both September (Virgo). My brother & his son are 3&4 April respectively. My birthdate is/was the same as Harold Wilson - remember him (with the pipe).
Would some govt. statistics dept. have the answer? Now there's a job for the boys! Are we talking here about worldwide or certain countries?
