Hmm, well maybe I should ask next time I am there. As for "tattooing a heart on your chest with his name in the middle", it isn't that bad a thing. If you break of with the person, not good. You don't want to afterwards only be able to date people called John or Bob. But it is quite a sign of commitment. Especially because it is so hard to get rid of again, seems better than marriage for showing devotion. I saw an interview with a couple, they had both gotten an identical tattoo of a red and black tribal sun on their arms. Looked quite good.

Well, I could be wrong...! I don't think I am though.

My rule of tattooing - no names, no bands, no football teams.

I have a friend who is in a band, called Thread. This band has been going for years in an underground way. Now he has a sleeve done, with Thread integral to it. now, when he was in the process of having it done, and it just said Thread down his arm, I thought it was stupid as bands form/reform etc. Now as part of the sleeve, it looks good, and I know if and/or when the band do split, he will still have a good tattoo. I think that 'Thread' has a personal meaning anyway...

Well, I'm *going* to get Jessica Rabbit on my leg. But I have the sense to choose something that is the emblem of every man's wolf whistle, as well as to have the picture up on my wall for a while first...

Not too sure about cartoon characters myself....

But my friend got a really impressive Winnie the Pooh done on her backside!! smiley - silly

I have two tattoos, both on my back.

The first one was chinese writing which means friendship (on the right hand side just above my bottom, my friend and I got them done while on holiday 5 years ago. It was the best holiday I have ever had and we wanted something that would remind us of that!! It really hurt like hell and it only took 5 mins to do. I really thought I would not be able to let the tattoist finish!!!

The second one was designed for me by a tatooist called 'Demon Ed', he has been in several magazines for his stunning work. I had it done in Cyprus and it cost 40CY£ (About £45 GBP)

Its a dragon, about 7 inches in height all black with a rather celtic style to it, in the middle towards the bottom of my back. The tail curls down and the tip dissapears just where my underwear sits!!

It took 40 minutes for him to do it and I love it! And it didn't hurt as much as the smaller one!!! smiley - weird

Take your time choosing a tattoo, its a very personal thing and to echo what has been said earlier in the thread you don't want to regret it a few years down the line!! smiley - smiley

Bob, I am the Queen of good taste. My Jessica Rabbit will be gorgeous. I would bring the picture along on Friday, but I don't want it to get squished. It is absolutely *tongueoutdroolslathereddownchin* type picture. It wouldn't work on a bloke...but then I'm not a bloke...

It does look good...I have mine between my shoulders, and I will have one to mirror it in the small of my back. Not yet though, because I want to think about that one for a while.

Cartoon characters can be alright, if they have some special meaning to you. But just getting the latest craze seems stupid. But then again, that pretty much applies to the whole tattooing thing. Get a tattoo if it has meaning for you, not just cos it will look cool.

Instead of Jessica Rabbit, how about that Red Riding Hood from the Tex Avery movies? She's a bit more of a classic, and she also had wolves howling at her.

Well, the thing is, I think Jessica Rabbit is far hotter, and faaaar more feminine than the Little Red Riding Hood character. She was one of those characters that you immediately think *wow* and KNOW she is a sex symbol...as opposed to the slightly paedophilic nature of the LRRH...and I don't know. She's hot! What can I say! I intend to create a certain impact by having her on my body! But I'm going to hold it off for a while yet...only had the perfect picture for a month or too. Doesn't harm to wait it out. It's the ONLY cartoon I'm going to get. Before, I poo-poo'd the idea.

Sierra Indigo - now Cheesecakethulhu flavoured

I know a woman who's got tattoos all over. Things like Rob Zombie and The Undertaker, though. Which is really bad, because since the newer WWE storylines, she's really grown to hate 'Taker.

But anyway. My tattoo (I haven't gotten it yet, I just need to find out how much it'll cost me) is going to be an oriental dragon on my right shoulder. Beautiful. I've wanted it for two years, I'm passionate about it and I truly believe that it belongs there, so I doubt I'm going to regret it.

On a slightly sillier bent, but also one I've wanted for ages, I'm going to get "Dead Girl Superstar" in gothic script on the small of my back. It suits me to a "T"

Queeglesproggit - Keeper of the evil Thingite Avon Lady Army and Mary Poppins's bag of darkness..

Did anybody see the Frank Skinner show with the very tattooed guy, who removed a bandage from his collar/shoulder area for the first time to reveal a pic of Frank Skinner! Still, appearing on the show was important to him and he'll never forget it now!

I would like one done, one day. A small one, somewhere reasonably discreet, like my hip. It'll be a private special thing, and only those close to me would see it!

I do agree with the warnings to people to think about "bits that may sag", or stretch - especially as it's a very good point for young'uns to think about when they're asking for one. I managed to persuade a friend to have a Henna tattoo done, to see if she liked it, before she went of and had a cowboy hat on her arm cuz she was so into Line Dancing... the hobby has faded now, as has the henna, and the idea!

I'd definitely agree about trying out something temporary first. This thread's been making me think about having another one, so I have continued my research and found some good websites selling temporary tattoos - their pix seem to be much better than the "real" tattoo sites - you can see the designs properly and they haven't got "SAMPLE" written through them. Clearly less paranoid about having their designs nicked.

Who was looking for a phoenix? I found a couple of nice examples (really must get round to learning this link stuff):

spiritualnetwork.safeshopper.com/34/189.htm?326

Lots of celtic stuff - very nice but all "samples".

and one of the tribal designs called "Strength" or "Power" or something, which looked a bit like a phoenix if you turned it upside down(!) at:

www.bodygraphics.ca/htm/tribandcelt.htm

Some lovely ones there, all temps so you can try them out first. I feel some Christmas pressies coming on...

ismarah - fuelled by M&Ms

I´ve got one that I got in the States - cost 50$ and took not very long. The shop was very nice, with carpet and tile, groovy music and cool people.
Although they make you sign this nice bit of paper that says you are old enough, sober enough and mostly sane enough to know what you´re doing. It also states that you don´t have a heart problem, no liver condition and that you do not have a history of fainting...

So we showed up there, with a chinese dictionary (to make sure that what I picked would be authentic and facing the right way), asked for a pair of scissors to cut off the hospital armband we´d got put on me a few hours earlier, and proceeded to pick out tattoos. True story!
