Phryne- 'Best Suppurating Actress' Posted Nov 21, 2002
I have wanted the same one for 7 years: a design from a mediaeval woodcut, of a female mandrake plant (woman-root hybrid with a head full o' leaves.) I have never changed my mind and know that when I like som't I stick with it. Who's anyone to tell me what I will think in future? I would accept that responsibility.
However I have the sensibilities of Queex to take into account... ... however, he is now reconciled to the idea. (Note: he never said 'you CAN't have it', or 'I'll leave you' etc, or he would not be here now. ) At least he was reasonable about it, unlike other responses I got:
1) you'll never get a job.
2) they fade.
3) I've never seen a nice one.
I am having it just below my shoulder, they have such things as *sleeves* in today's advanced world. I know enough to keep it out of the sun. And lastly, you can bugger off on that point, you've not lived.
What would be a good price for this? it would not be flash, obviously, but it is only about 3" high, black and white line.

A good tattooist should be able to work with any design that you come up with although it may need to be altered or simplified.
One of those websites had a "design your own" bit on it, but it didn't seem to be working!

Surely everyone knows that they are permanant?
Which begs the question - why do people get ones that are an open invitation to go wrong ie: Kevin Keegan and Newcastle for ever!
Eric Cantona - The Heart of Man U.!
In the late '70's there were a few punks with the band *Blitz* on their arms. A great fast punk bank who suddenly got a big record deal and turned into some sort of goth electro band.Doh!!
Before I'm flamed - Whatever Blitz changed to, the fans were not too keen (can't quite remember the details!)

Walking past tattoo shops looking at the photos, I can see at least two people have gotten XXX tattoed on the back of their neck, like in that movie. That seems sort of sad.

Especially as Vin Diesel's tattoos are all fakes!
Another snippet of useless info gleaned while doing my research!

Copying a film star's tattoos seems incredibly sad to me- esp. just after a film that could well be a one-hit wonder for the actor (and I use the word loosely).

Have you not had the thought that the tattoo's could have been done BEFORE that movie had even come out? It is only a loose rendition of a tribal design after all...
Tattoos
Saturnine Posted Nov 22, 2002
Does it? Am I thinking of the right one?? If I am, it just looks like a tribal style one to me.
Regarding the issue of regret. I'll say it before and I'll say it again. If you don't get a tattoo for the right reason, then you're bound to regret it...I think the first reason to get one should always be about something (I hesitate to use the phrase) spiritual. So that is symbolic of something. If you just get it for the "cool" factor, for the latest trend, then you deserve the negative repercussions!!!
And you CAN get a job if you have tattoo's. Just not one that requires a "corperate" image. And if you work in a job that requires a "corperate image" then what the heck are you doing getting a tattoo?

You can even get a job that requires a corporate image, if your tattoos can't be seen if you're wearing a long sleved shirt.

If you believe yourself to be beautiful and that the tattoo would be modification to your beauty, a positive one then go for it...
not familiar with a XXX tribal sybol... but then I'm sureit was available for other meaning pre-lame-hollywood film...

Saturnine Posted Nov 23, 2002
I don't think "beautiful" is the right term when it comes to body modification...it's more about the creation of art from your body. "Beautiful" has ugly connotations...!

To some perhaps... everyone sees different things in words and looks at the world in their own way, or likes to think it's their own...
but I see why you felt you should provide an alternative POV...

Saturnine Posted Nov 23, 2002
Well, to me, "beautiful" is about mating, as opposed to art. It's blonde, blue eyed, media-imaged exterior...that's all!

Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Nov 23, 2002
Wells that your opinion, I personally favour a less 2d concept...

Saturnine Posted Nov 23, 2002
No no no. You misunderstand me. That is just what the word connotates to me. Aryan worship isn't my idea of fun...!!
I'm being pedantic

Beautiful to me means everything from buxom blondes to sunsets. As long as it looks nice.
But the tatto we are talking about Saturnine, is the one he has on the back of his neck. It shows three X'es, and I doubt it existed before the movie. Also saw a guy with a tattoo of the 9 people from Slipknot, covering his entire back, Beats having the word Blitz on you

Oh dear. Slipknot tattoo.
*laughs at the crapness of the world*

Saturnine Posted Nov 24, 2002
I've seen that Slipknot tattoo. It would be good, if it wasn't Slipknot. Still. Each to their own.
Why do you *doubt* it existed before the movie? I'm a regular in my tattoo place, and therefore know the flash like the back of my hand. Seen plenty like it.
