14:23 06/02/04 for once it is raining everywhere except Manchester, it's really rather pleasant here, not as nice as the past few days but nice all the same

Ah, well, it's what makes an engineering course so good for your health - gets you sweating every now and then (though it doesn't do much for making you attractive to people)! I'm still thinking about joining a gym for when the weather isn't so nice ...

10 minutes ago the clouds were being blown past so fast the sunshine looked like strobe lighting.
5 minutes ago we had a great deal of snow blown past, from west to east, at 30-40 mph. For a couple of minutes visibility was 2 or 3 feet, then it moved outwards progressively. Within a few seconds I could see the hillside facing me - newly covered with .
Now the sun's flickering on and off again.
I was wondering last night - why does the wind always get so much worse at night?

It's alright for some
Mind you, we DID have some sun - though in the end it was snowing at the same time. I kept looking for a
The forecast says "Gale force northwesterly winds bringing frequent showers of rain, sleet, hail and snow. Snow will be mainly over hills giving blizzard conditions."
I'd agree with that. I think horizontal passing at 70mph probably qualifies as a blizzard. Wonder who's going to walk the tonight

It's about 35C, and heading for 37 or 38C. Not pleasant, but it's dry so the heat isn't oppressive. No clouds, but there is a slight haze. It's likely to be like this for the next few days.
Ivan.

Blowing a gale! The sleety hail/rain is being blown sideways, and the 25 mph wind is rattling all the windows.

Cold winds and hail storm afternoon

A day for ignoring - preferably indoors.

It's been a beautiful day to look at in the North Pennines. Glorious sunshine pouring down over the snowdrifts
still pretty cold and windy though.

Last night was truly disgusting; about 23C and sticky. It's now overcast, and trying to rain but failing. About 25C. The weather bureau clearly got it wrong again.

76F warm calm cloudless, and very very dry. We'd been getting days of coolish, dry 30mph high-in-the-sky winds blowing in from the desert to the north, and this did my tulip sprouts in. Tulips are always a gamble here as it's too warm for them and they are likely to resent the silliest of things. Oh, well. My cape cowslip (lachenalia) is putting out a nice footlong hot poker, and the jasmine, fuchsias, and heliotrope are still abloom, so I am not too too sad.
will1, welcome to H2G2! Are you Phoenix-ish or Tempe-wards?

we have some snowdrops out in the sunny sheltered corner and 4 or 5 crocuses decided to bloom just before it snowed again
the snow on the track froze even more so can't get out at all - but we did have about 20 minutes of sunlight this morning.
