Canberra, 5:20pm Friday 30 January
About 20C, breezy, a bit cloudy. There was some rain earlier but it only lasted 5 minutes and there aren't even any puddles as proof that it happened.

Maz - I'm just watching the 7 o'clock news - I see that your part of the world is a little damp at the moment. Have you been flooded or otherwise affected?
Oh, I don't know - Melbourne's swamped, Canberra's dry as a bone - do you get the feeling that things could have been organised better?
Ivan.

I certainly do get that feeling. What on earth is the use of all this water falling on the suburbs and not in the catchment areas? another of those 'mysteries of life!'
We had a massive deluge over some of the inner suburbs ( some of the more affluent ones this time!) and there were a lot of properties flooded. Quite a lot of cars got stuck on lower parts of the roads. Apparently the problem was not blocked drains just the fact that the drains aren't big enough! Fortunately I live on the northern edge of Melbourne and we are also on the top af a rise. An awful lot of houses would have to be under water for us to have a problem!

Canberra, 3:20pm Saturday 31 January
About 22C, gusty winds (they *do* exist ), overcast. There was some rain earlier but it only lasted 5 minutes and there aren't even any puddles as proof that it happened. I think I said that yesterday. The weather must be in re-runs or something.
Ivan.

Enough of the snow got washed away for the postie to reach us so we got an entire week's worth of mail.
The rain turned back to snow shortly after sunset though and we STILL don't have any pavements.
(We nearly always need the lights on all day Lizzbett. Old houses on windy hillsides have 2ft thick walls and tiny windows)
