When I was coming home this evening I noticed they've already salted the station platform and stairs. They're absolutely convinced tomorrow is the day of cold. And yes, now it is pretty darn freezing outside.

Overcast, cold, no snow (and yet they've been gritting the pavements)!

Cold and dry - but the most spectacular sunset I have seen in a long while. All reds and oranges...rather typical that I have B&W film in the camera

When I went out to the library this morning, it was cold and overcast with a freezing wind. When I went out again this afternoon (to supermarket) it was even colder and I could smell snow. It hasn't here yet, but I can definitely smell it. It reminds me of my childhood in the mountains, nostalgia nostalgia.
Can anyone else smell weather coming? And why am I finding this conversation so fascinating?

Hi Agapanthus!
My husband can smell snow (usually) coming. It's cold here, sunny, and snow on the ground.

It's raining. Oh what a suprise.
But up north, near where the Yukon starts, the lovely Zack of Global TV tells me it's something like -52 with windchill.

Somewhere in the middle of Minnesota, U.S.A...
A couple of days ago it was between 40 and 50 degrees F below zero. Today, some parts of the state got 19 inches of snow. Is winter finally here, or will it leave again? I hope it's here to stay, but only time will tell.

Its all relative so they say...
But as far as I'm concerned its bloody freezing with a cold northerly coming down from the arctic. Please lets just have some snow tonight. I'm wearing my Russian hat made of 3 rabbit furs when I go out.

It's been snowing on and off since about 3:30pm (while I was waiting to get a toof extracted). The snow is lying because it's been cold and un rainy for a few days. It's just getting colder and colder up here, but there is no appreciable wind (at the moment)
I feel an evening of hot and snuggling under the blanket on the sofa coming up. A perfect time to watch Lawrence of Arabia I feel!

Paris - 27th January
About 0c all day but no wind of any significance. The Capital seems tave escaped the worst of the snow but there's lot of it around the countryside as I travel back to London. I love Eurostar.

It's been snowing most of the last 24 hours (I know cos I had to get up in the middle of the night and rescue my lodger who's car had broken down in it )
We're used to it here - the salting lorries are out without any broo-haha, people know what clothes to wear, to have their winter tyres on etc etc.
It is very very pretty....and with the proper transport maintainance it's not a problem

Well it's finally snowing here. Has been for a while as well as there is about 1/2" (1-1.5cm) of the stuff on the ground. If it stays it could make getting to work interesting tomorrow.

11pm North Pennines, UK (altitude 1400ft)
Snow started around 10am yesterday (Monday 26th). Kids were sent home from school at lunchtime but the ploughs cleared the roads by teatime.
It's been snowing since about 6pm today (bright sunshine all day). Seems to have stopped now but more's forecast for the early hours. The thermometer just inside my front door reads -2 at the moment. Don't know what it's like outside but the wind's roaring so windchill factor must be considerable.

Just south of Heathrow Airport
On a night shift - just accepted a despatch in a flurry of huge snowflakes, but it's not settling, and, as yet, does not look too serious about getting any heavier.
V. cold though!

Canberra, 7pm Wednesday 28 January.
About 24C, down from 30C or thereabouts. Light breeze, small fluffy white clouds, rosellas (a type of parrot - red and blue) on the lawn.
Just thought I'd rub it in...
Ivan.
