British Summer Time...
Lady in a tree Started conversation Mar 30, 2002
...starts tonight. Remember to put your clocks forward 1 hour!
Isn't it about time all this BST/GMT nonsense was scrapped? For one thing my cats get very confused about breakfast/dinner time!

Cats never get confused.
They are perfectly happy to get their food early tomorrow, and are only angry in autumn when they have to wait forever.

There was an experiment in the early 70s where they scrapped the change for a couple of years, and we effectively had BST all year around.
I remember well traveling to school in the dark - but coming home in daylight, even in midwinter. It was a lot better IMHO - I wish they'd either bring it back, or else move forward an hour all year around and get in step with the rest of Western Europe.
I believer the problem they had was in Scotland, particularly in the north, where it didn't get light until really late. I reckon that as there is now a Scottish Parliament there's no reason not to have two timezones if that's an issue.
Oh yes - I get hungry when it's dark. I get hungry when it's light. It doesn't matter what time it is - I'm hungry.

Yay, longer evenings .
I love BST, even though we won't get any vaguely summery weather until autumn

Yeah, and it's going to rain tomorrow and Monday, according to Michael fish who knows about that sort of stuff. Looney is right, the rain just gets warmer, but at least it's light.

Didn't we end up with double BST at one point. I seem to remember that this was an experiment designed to confuse cats and to provide us with light until about 2 a.m. but to ensure that in July it got dark at 3:30 p.m.

They had double BST in the war, according to my mother, who was there. I don't think they've done it since. Wasn't there a Mony Python sketch about confusing cats?
It's easy to confuse our cat, you just have to move his dish.

Just did a quick search to find that I don't remember DBST (Double British Summer Time) because it was in use throughout "the" war.
There is loads of legislation relating to BST and it seems that it may have been the idea of Benjamin Franklin. He did not have any cats. To speak of.

Luckily we don't have double summer time here in New Zealand... it would fade the curtains
