Hi, I'm trying to find products containing ants that are available in Europe. Alternatively, do you have any information on Chocolate Covered Ants that were exported from Mexico and sold in the '60's?

Try selfridges food hall (basement level). In their sweets section is a stall with all sorts of sugared/chocolated creepy crawlies.

Well, does it have to be edible? Or else there's ant farms, pants with ants in them, probably some fish food and other things.

During the mid 1970's I worked as a trainee manager (shelf stacker) in a posh supermarket called Standings in Harrogate. Standings had pretentions towards being the Harrods of the north I believe. Anyway, one of the less lip smacking comestibles on offer in that fine emporium were chocolate covered ants. They came in boxes or bags rather than in pants and no I never ate any. I imagine that they were chocolatey on the outside and , well, anty, on the inside.
Oh and perhaps a little crunchy too. I believe that the ants were dead. Alergic to being coated in chocolate you see.

Makes Chrunchy Frog seem more realistic. As for the pants, there is a board game called "Ants In My Pants" I believe. Though it is probably not real ants.
The aboriginal considers honey ants a delicacy, perhaps you can get them as candy down under.

Well, it isn't really a board game, as there's no board. Basically, you have a plastic pair of pants and some plastic ants. You make the ants jump by pressing down on their backs and you try to see how many of them you can get in the pants.

There was an article in the Guardian's Editor suppliment about two months ago about the amount of insects that are found in ordinary choclate (there may have even been a thread here about it come to think), something like six insects for every 100g. It was astounding.
I had honeyed Locusts as a kid. They didn't taste of anything but sweetness. And the carcass wasn't as crunchy as the caramelised sugar coating.

I think it was 6 insect legs for each 1 kg. Though I doubt it is correct.
