A Mother's Despair...
Remember, remember the fifth of November, gun powder, treason and Plot...
A rhyme about Bonfire Night this is not!
For a year ago that day, a man took away
something my daughter had got.
He took her confidence you see,
that this child on my knee,
had more than most of us lot.
He may not have gotten to do his act so rotten,
but his attack was just as frightening.
Although her dog, Murray, acted like lightening
to send this deviant away,
the fright that it gave her, took sway.
Now a year on fireworks sound and bonfires smell,
and my baby is going through her personal hell,
I can do nothing as her mother....
except watch her as she takes cover
and cowers behind her own mental wall,
until she is ready to come back to us all.

The eyes have it.....
Mum started to cry when she read this out to me. Silly girl.
Mum... you cannot beat yourself up about something of which you have no control over.
Friends of mum. Just in case you didn't quite understand the poem, this is what happened on bonfire night.
Whilst walking the dog, I was grabbed from behind by some bushes about 30 to 50 yards from my front door. His hand was over my mouth and his arm across my chest. It was my dog (who we assume bit the man because he leg go of me shortly before I heard Murray yelp). This gave me chance to get away. 4 times I dropped my door key whilst trying to get into the house and Murray was ever so confused.
I don't know if what happened last year is what is causing my problems now. Some would say yes, some would say no. I had counselling last year for it, and it seemed to work.
So there you have it.

That's really shocking Vicki. I spent some time with my daughters going over some stuff to do should someone attack or try to strangle them. (Kicks to soft dangly bits and sudden moves with pointy elbows and grinding heels down unsuspecting shins played quite a large role.)
It's really a horrible thought that someone would want to do that sort of thing.
Lil - I can understand your upset, too. Woe betide anyone that tries to hurt mine.

She had done self defence as a teenager Wolfie, but I suppose the older we get, the more we forget.. or perhaps even think "It will never......"
Vestboy, hopefully now our female friends on hootoo will remember to carry a torch in shadowed areas, it was not completely dark where this happened, just shadowy.. he had to run at least 10ft into the light to grab her and pull her back towards the hedge. Also carrying something sharp like keys will help as a weapon.
This attack never gave VV any physical harm, but we are all seeing the damage it has caused in other ways.

Oh, look what you've done I've got to put on my serious hat here a second Lil, using the keys or any 'sharp' object ( even a ballpoint pen etc has two negative side effects, one is that it put's you in direct conflict with the law for using it with intent to harm ( even in self defence ) but secondly on the practical front that puncture wounds from sharp objects do one of two things they either, only hurt a little bit because it's just where they pass through the skin and they make the attacker though shocked, mad too, or they by some chance sever a vital artery and you end up facing a manslaughter or even murder charge.
Blunt objects are best when used effectively. The shock value is higher and they allow you a better chance of causing real pain levels, even in non vital areas. For instance have you ever looked at a highly practical for walking the dog, two D cell Maglite torch and realised that it has almost the same mass as a police baton, particularily when used non shiny end on, for instance over your shoulder into the attackers face or forehead, or the hand /arm that hold the throat, jab with it don't swing. At a push a rolled up magazine will do the same job.
here endeth the hurty lesson

Keys make a good flail, especially striking at the eyes.
