A Mother's Despair
Cat-Eyes: No..... why.... ? Posted Sep 28, 2004
Apparently next year for PE we do a unit on self defence and at one stage we have some huge lady sitting on us pretending to rape us so we can learn to get them off. I'm REALLY scared by the sound of this... Whoa... Freaky...

I wish self-defence had been on the curriculum when I was at school. I might have been able to see the value in Phys Ed if that had been the case.

until you have been put in that situation, then you don't know how you will react.
My main point was to keep breathing...the guys hand was over my mouth and partially obstructing my nose, so it make things quite tricky.
The whole thing was over in less than 10 seconds.
It was the policeman who came round who made me realise just how dangerous my situation had been.
I didn't want to call the police. It took me about an hour to call mum and tell her what happened. She immediately sent dad round.
He knocked on the door and said (please excuse french here)
"get on that fuckin phone and call the police"
(sorry mods....if you're going to yikes it, then please yikes that one line, not all of it).
The police where roun within an hour of the phone call which surprised me to be honest.
What he said to me, was this. If (god forbid) this ever happened again, then I was to use as much force as necessary to make me feel safe. He said, if this means punching him in the face and kicking him untill he fell to the ground, then that was fine in the eyes of the law. He said that if I carried on after he was on the ground, then this is where the law goes on the side of the attacker.

A good point made by your father in making you get the police around, it all helps when trying to catch the man, imagine if he had struck again, but this time on somebody who didn't get away..
I know they probably didn't, but that's not the point I'm making, we police in this country by consent not by hard enforcement which requires the public to be an integral part of the process ( though to watch te Specials in action on a Friday night, this is hard to reconcile with reality )
Still I hope you're feeling better VV

The law's the same here in the US- you're allowed to defend yourself, but if you go beyond that, they intervene on the side of your attacker.

Gosh.... all round!
So brave.
Glad you called the police and your dad told you too, the next victim might not have been so lucky.
Of course not implying that you were lucky, at all..what a crappy thing to happen to anyone...*grrrr*
It's not like you live far away from me either, was this sick Bast*** caught?

Yeah, but at least you're not employed as an IT guy at a school and don't know how to change an ink cartridge. *points and laughs at stupid IT guy who didn't know and Cat had to try SO hard not to laugh her head off as she waited for him to figure it out*
