My ultimate sandwich would be:
Toasted white bread (could be brown if light in texture)
butter
cheddar cheese
raw onion rings (lots)*
salt and pepper.
"Done", as Gordon Ramsey would say.
* - this also acts as a contraception in our household, meaning that I have to sleep on the sofa!

Sounds nice, but I have just cooked a piece of ham which is so delicious it makes you want to cry. That in homemade bread with some cheddar and a dollop of homemade chutney cor blimey, knock yer socks off.

I love cheese on toast with fresh, chopped garlic.

Do you put the garlic in the cheese or chop it and sprinkle it on raw? I love garlic too and found that wild garlic, a bit like chives is lovely sprinkled on cheese.

I suppose it's a good idea if you both eat it. I love the smell of garlic and garlic breathe has never bothered me. Tea breathe now I hate that.

I chop the garlic and mix it with the grated cheese, before it goes under the grill. I too love wild garlic - especially when I pick it to nibble on when I'm out walking!
If it is an aphrodisiac it's wasted - my husband keeps well clear of me afterwards!

What does the post/milk man say?
Or do you buy your stuff at Tesco's? (Not supposed to shop there anymore, I heard??)

Cookiecate Posted Aug 4, 2007
OK what have Tesco done? I don't like Asda because they belong to Wal-Mart and they move into towns and put everyone out of business and don't pay their employees enough so hundreds of people have to go on welfare. Well thats whats happened in America. I don't like Sainsbury because everything costs more and I don't like Waitrose because they are food snobs, but I do like Morrisons.

I saw a documentary about TESCO's - they are too big and the refuse to put proper labelling on their food. Traffic Light Code??

There does seem to be an awful lot of stuff on labels right now, but me I still just fling it in the basket the only thing I do is try and cook from scratch but then I am fortunate enough to have the time.

Butter
Summer Tomatoes (doesn't taste of anything in winter months)
raw onion rings (lots)
salt and pepper.

>> I don't like Waitrose because they are food snobs <<
Which, oddly enough, is exactly why I *do* like them. It's (almost) impossible to buy rubbish food there, because they simply don't stock it.
Now, sandwiches:
I like the sound of the home-made ham one, but surely it needs a smothering of English mustard to do it justice?
A nice rare roast beef with horseradish, on thick-cut farmhouse white bread is also very tasty! This is one which absolutely must dodge the salad - "garnish" has no place in this particular sandwich.

I miss Branston Pickle and also Picalilli? I buy it everytime I go (home) back to England. Now that would be almost better than Mustard? I'm getting hungry again!!

Sounds great!
I'm doing this kind of sandwich when I'm alone, never realize I could put some cheese on it, I'm trying that next time. But I'm not putting peas, I'll put some meat instead (bacon).
