This sound more canadian than american (still, I can't eat that! I can't even get close to people who it that for supper... It has sugar! You have to eat meat, salt, anything, but not sugar! Sugar is for the desert!)
I'm glad you like it anyway.

I probably wouldn't eat it for supper- too heavy for that late in the day! Breakfast, if anything.
Even though I'm not at all fond of desserts, I can't say I often have sweet stuff with dinner- unless you count a little fruit on the side?
Someone earlier mentioned Branston pickle. I had never had it before until I visited the U.K. in 2003. Now I order the stuff by mail. I like it with sliced white cheese, and just a touch of canoleo spread (in lieu of butter) to moisten the bread. What else is it good with (excluding meat- I don't eat it)?

We have what we call a ploughman's lunch usually eaten in a pub. Crusty bread, a wedge of real cheese, a dollop of branston and salad of some description. Branston pickle is lovely but I also like mango chutney served the same way.

By salad- is that in the sense of lettuce/tomato/etc topping for the sandwich? That really confused me when I visited the U.K. Once, I ordered an egg salad, and it came with sliced boiled egg, lettuce, etc. In these parts, egg salad refers to what UKnians call Egg mayonnaise...
I absolutely love mango chutney, but I have never had it on a sandwich (unless you count smearing it all over naan or onion kulcha )!!

Yes I can believe it would be confusing. We UKeans usually refer to salad as anything which contains lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Egg Mayonnaise and Tuna Mayonnaise and even cole slaw are things to have with salad. We are getting really good with pasta salads, potato salad and rice salad and can enjoy raw vegetables which used to make our grandparents look quite nervous.

I never met a vegetable I didn't like. But yeah, my grandma doesn't seem to like too many of them.
I haven't had many rice salads- if you have any good suggestions, please leave 'em at my PS- but I do like rice pudding and curried rice.

Hi Hermoine.
Tell me ... what is Lebenese Bread? Sounds very interesting.
PS: You are my first Hermoine (apart from HP). Are you going to write anything in your Personal Space?
My kids love cheese on toast. (welsh rabitt (pronounced rare-bit)) Have you heard of this in Chicago Psychocandy? It is very British ... probably wartime food like: beans on toast!!

"Do you have a problem with felafel in general, or just the concept of them being used for pocket sandwich filling?" - psychocandy.
I'm an Israeli living in the UK. One of my favourite foods when going back home is Falafel. I have NO problems with it whatsoever, but I never thought of it as a sandwich! A sandwich is filling between two slices of bread. Pita... well, it's a bread sliced on the top and stuffed, isn't it?
And I prefer Subway to most of the trash you can get here, up north. There are more salads available, but the veg is refrigerated after slicing and tastes awful when you get it on your plate.
One thing I do enjoy is this well-known pub chain does a beer and burger deal, they make a lovely minted lamb burger that's served with thick cut chips and tomato relish. Yummmm

As for food... ooh, I think:
lightly salted real butter, fresh french stick, baby leaf salad, thinly sliced cucumber, lot of thin sliced parmesan coated salami...
mmm...
... Best with a glass of chilled cranberry and blackcurrant (or Smirnoff norsk and tonic if you're after a )
