Sorry about my block voting, but I feel Willard Price will be sorely under-represented in this study, and his contribution to my life would go un-noticed if I only mentioned South Sea adventure.
Perhaps more importantly, I didn't have time to think of ten books; it took me long enough for me to think of the last two!

Don't totally agree with your top 10 but it was nice to see a mention for Lois McMaster Bujold's stuff. Not very well known here in the UK AFAIK. I rely on the occasional work popping up in the local public library - the last one I read was 'A Civil Campaign' which was about as far as you get from hard sci-fi
I like Peter Hamilton's books too.
