Hehe... Mort... think of what that does to my poor PC...
>to tell the truth if somebodies messeage is that long i dont bother reading it <
boxing_baboon... Glad you said that... as that confirms the necessity to put all the important infos/details/etc mentioned in this thread and other convos in one place [hence _the_ entry/page mentioned in my posts]under headers/subheaders... then, that way, when someone needs to look up something they will have more chance to find it straight away...
[I'm going to be a bit more <./>online</.> today so it might be started during that time...]
Everyone... talk soon...

PS: going to attempt step 2 [migrating an account through a newer digibox model] in a few minutes... Wish me luck... If it works, then we will know if the model of the machine affects the SSO process for digiboxes as well...

at whoever touched something on the digibox upstairs...
As you might have guessed from what i just said something stopped me from trying the experiment with the other digibox...
Clicked on email [the old way as that particular digibox hasn't got the Telewest upgrade yet...] and was greeted by a message asking me to add some 000 to my number.. so i have to look for the account number first before even accessing the TVemail on that box...
Like i have all the time in the world to look for things like that...
Oh, before i go back to my quest/research/experiment, there is something i would like to ask [and i know it's not strictly related to SSO but at the same time that didn't happen _before_ the changes]: i noticed that when i clicked on the frame with "h2g2 statistics/infos" on my space while on digibox i can't access the <./>info</.> page... could the digibox users try it for me?!...
Back soon [i hope]...

This is a little embarrassing - the email actualy says include the *data*, not the date.
I've flagged this to the single sign-on people as something that's causing confusion."
one problem that will be sorted soon...
The wording in the process can be of importance as confusion can arise easily even for terms/expressions we take for granted...
[not having a go at you Jimster or anyone else by the way.. these things happen...]
I still have the feeling that the explanations for the naming convention [you know when we are told to change our name] might be confusing as well [well, it did confuse me at first during the testing anyway...]... i wonder if others feel the same [those who had to change their registered name that is]...
Anyway... Jimster... and thanks Kat for pointing the email issue as well...
Trying to cut down on the length of my postings [] so part 2 for this one coming soon...

WILD-BIRIYANI... What was this ning away for?!....
last posting from me for a while []...
Tried to migrate an account from the newer model/digibox upstairs [yep.. found my account number relatively fast..] and found myself with the same problem as mentioned in an earlier posting:
Blank page with BBC registration at the top etc...
So unless the fact that this newer model doesn't have the Telewest upgrade yet is the reason, i'm even more clueless than before...
I will migrate the account through the PC later on and leave the TVemail addy in the details to see what happens then... but that does seem to indicate that until this problem is sorted some digibox users will have to migrate their account through a PC...
That's it for _now_ []... Talk later...

Another potential solution:
Digibox users can email themselves links. Why not get each digibox user to email themself a link that will log them in?
www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/signon/mainscript.pl?service=h2g2&username=user&password=pass
is a link that will log in the person to h2g2 with the username 'user' and the password 'pass', taking them to the frontpage in their default skin (plain for almost all digibox users).
All each digibox user need do after migrating their account is email themself <a href="www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/signon/mainscript.pl?service=h2g2&username=user&password=pass"> changing 'user' to their username and 'pass' to their password, then click that link every time they want to login! Unless they changed their password, this link would never stop working.
The only downside is that, as the username and password would be visible in plaintext in that email, they'd have to make sure that nobody was looking over their shoulder when they used the link.

There's always that approach too, very handy for some other things. That probably should get a digibox user to the plain skin if it's set in their preferences, if not they can always add a &ptrt=http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/plain/SSO to the end.
spelugx - thought the form was prettier
