Abi...
I know what you mean about ASL..
and I agree with what you just said...followed on by"Do you want to cyber"
but I never had that at anytime on here its well!! not that sort of communication area(not that I ever have nor want to cyber)
but ASL did inform one where the personna was and if of like age and gender(albeit true or false)

hi Di.. for your comments...
hi abi..
hehe... luckystar must be worried about my intentions now...
but yep obviously these chat-like expressions are used everywhere on the net and not just by us...
i think for most of us ASL also reminds us of that _other_ aspect of chat rooms... and we do joke about it ourselves sometimes...
while i haven't used the LD chat rooms long [i went quoting to its library after a few months and pratically stayed there...] i also know that some LDers made some great friends while using the chat rooms... actually _another_ reason why Yoome2 [the site that took over LD] upset some people is that, because they restricted the use of the site to telewest customers only, many have lost touch with the americain friends they met on the site...
i'm a bit limited with my access to hootoo at the moment as i'm going to be stuck using the local library's computers for up to two weeks []...
i do have other points to make regarding the LDers on h2g2 []... but i will have to unload my thoughts on the subject in smaller doses...
but, before i give you all a well deserved break from my postings, i would like to add that yes,_many_ LDers want to be part of hootoo community and that _many_ h2g2ers are welcoming them as such _already_, the proof being the fact that so many of them are going the extra-mile so that the newly arrived ex-LDers get the specific info they need straight away... and of course i will never forget the many established h2g2ers who have shown us a lot of support and interest when we were using the "360 trick"... [ to all of you]
[the italics as well of course...]
talk soon everyone...
all the best...

Hi All
I too am an "Ex LDer" who has had this email for 18mths or so...well before LD actually disappeared.
It was passed by a friend who was genuinely impressed by what he'd found and I have to say I've gathered lots of information from here on subjects close to my heart, including material regarding autism/ADHD.
In essence, there are aspects to h2g2 that are not a million miles away from how LD was.....our "Library" was a place that people could go into and express an opinion, start debates and also seek/offer information/advice on a variety of subjects.
The main side to LD was of course "Chat"....but surely when we browse through h2g2 and come across pages that interest us and leave a message are we not indulging in "chat"....
The question of ASL....I have never asked it on here, although I do asked whereabouts a user is based...purely from interest, gives you an idea of how far reaching this site is and also opens up other topics of conversation.
I really do hope that a "Them and Us" situation is not occuring on here....we ALL have so much to offer regardless of where/how we found this site....
Apologies in advance if this in any way offends or upsets anybody, that is not my intention.....just my point of view on things
(puts soap box back in cupboard)

hehe... managed to get some extra PC access time...
of course one frustrating thing is that some LDers themselves perpetuate the misconception that LD was _only_ a chat site [ jojo but i had to correct that part..]...
as it has been said here [and was i'm sure mentioned in the links i posted previously] LD was not _just_ a chat site... the library for example was a great example of the talent of some of the users in debating certain issues and creative writing [we had one section with poems..]... so yep... not _that_ different from h2g2 when it comes to certain things...
i don't think there is really a too big "them and us" situation here... only people who have been on this site for a long time and having noticed a few changes are wondering if hootoo's own image/purpose is going to change... why would the site change suddenly because of a relatively big amount of newbies from one particular site?!... the fact is that what makes hootoo so different from all the other sites on the net is not going to change... if it was going to it would have happened ages ago... there have always been newbies arriving regularly on here and some from sites which might be even more different to hootoo than LD [pointing out once again than LD was not just a chat site...]
most of the Lders who arrive on here think that h2g2 is a great place... and want to contribute to it whatever way they can...
some, of course, like some newbies from other sites, might have more difficulties to adapt to the h2g2 ways... but that doesn't mean that h2g2 is not the site for us on the contrary... considering that many LDers have already contributed positively to this site it's actually another proof that we can make the transition from the old site to here... good news for everyone i would think...
my PC access time is almost over for today...
talk soon everyone...
