I'm RTG, one of the @h2g2_guide tweeters, I was given a set of keys last week. I'm hoping to help increase our follower count.

Let's work together to pump up contributing research to the Guide. How is that new competition shaping up? And details yet?

Anyone thinking of promoting stuff on twitfacemygoo+ check the links are working on an Entry before you do. I found two broken ones on a Front Page featured UG Entry today.

Trouble is, Kat has elvised years ago, so only the eds (ie Sam) could fix those broken links. That's the disadvantage of how the UG was edited: once the gem polisher is no longer around, there is now way for anybody else to edit an article.

Talking of socialising, I hear Facebook and Skype have done a deal to work together. I was thinking of getting Skype but I don't think I'll bother if they're linking up with Facebook. It took me months to get rid of them.

And to make it even better, Microsoft bought Skype back in May.

Shame it's otherwise a very useful programme.

I haven't heard that. I don't think you *have* to connect them. I recently installed ICQ at the repeated request of my sister. ICQ wants me to hook up with facebook. Hotmail (and MSN messenger) want me to hook up with facebook. BBC profile want me to hook up with fb. Twitter wants it. I don't. I have everything separated.

They announced it today Bel. It's trending on twitter at the moment. I particularly liked the comment someone made that Skype and Facebook teaming up was like trying to raise the dead.

I'm sure it can't be compulsory to connect the two (after all, they can't know whether or not you have a facebook account), so I wouldn't diss Skype because of it. All other IM services offer the same option.

Well the voice/video chat stuff google are coming up with (this functionality in Google Plus is **excellent) is tip top.

Skype is still pretty useful mind. I have a fair amount of freidns and family who live in forrin lands and it saves me a bloody fortune. And the Android Skype app is pretty blooming ace to be perfectly honest.

Just use different IDs on SKYPE and FACEBOOK ~ and a seperate e-mail account.

That's what I meant, McKay. It's up to the user to keep them apart if they so wish. I have different names, passwords etc for all those accounts.

I've just been reading a bit more about it. It looks like a knee jerk reaction to Google+ if anything.

I am @redfoxpottery because that is what I use for my business and don't really want to create a person twitter account, the business does have its own facebook page, but not an account.

If you have not already done so, please subscribe to both the @h2g2c2 and @h2g2_Guide and also like the h2g2 Community Consortium's facebook page.

It is understood that your public online persona and your bad h2g2 self may be a bit different. If you are a dragon or a pirate here and a dentist or a librarian out there, that is fine. Don't feel that you need to do anything incongruous or out of character for yourself on facebook or twitter.

Without spamming or going crazy, this week let someone know about about h2g2. If you like an entry, tell someone you think might like it too. Send them the link. If you wrote an entry you are particularly proud of, send it to a friend or family member. Push on an entry from @h2g2_Guide with a personal, relevant note, preferably.

The key here is not be be spammy. We want people to write for the Guide and read the Guide. We want to encourage our fellow researchers to get back in the game now that we know h2g2 has a bright future.
