It's a pay-as-you-go travel card.
Touch it on the yellow pad each time you travel and it deducts the cost of the fare. You can use it each time you travel, but it will only take up to the maximum of a one-day pass. Also the fares are subsidised compared to paying cash...

I'm probably going to cry off unless I can find a) a sofa or b) someone willing to share a hotel room.
Just paid the last installment on my summer holiday, so can't really afford hotel + return train journey + beer...

I am currently wearing a tube map T-shirt I bought in a little place opposite the British Museum last time I was in London. I can report that it's rather more complicated than the Paris Metro (the Northern Line, for example, looks on the map like two or more lines which have mistakenly been given the same name), but it's simple enough in practice.

You'd be very useful to take on a journey TriG, but how do you go about reading a map whilst wearing it?

Stand in front of a mirror and chant: "East is West, East is West, East is West, East is West, East is West, East is West"
Cheerio!

every old typographer will tell you that reading laterally reversed is best done upside down, so you would also have to stand on your hands or head, trig

In the movie "Memento," a man who had zero short-term memory tattooed things across his chest backwards, and he could read his tattoos by standing in front of a mirror. The actor who starred in "Memento" later played Edward the Eighth in the current film "The King's Speech," which is likely to clean up at the Oscars tomorrow.
So, a T-shirt with the London transit system on it backwards would be easy to read wherever there are mirrors.

I just try to find a flight that doesn't have a stop in Germany. The best option so far is British Airways but the flight back would be at 7:40 Sunday morning
Makes me feel like I live at the end of the world.

I'm sure you don't live at the end of the world, Tav. I would have run into you by now if you did.
It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here.

exactly... I was born* at the end of the world... lived there for nearly 18 years before escaping err sorry... I've still not gotten a round tuit and updated the page and atendee list... I'll try later tonight, if I remember, once I've finished baking for the day, showered, and cooked dinner, and cleaned up, and mopped the kitchen floor, and put the mongoose out to pasture...

Gah! I've just realised that in the (more-than-very unlikely) event that I didn't completely fail my written papers last month, I would have to go to the orals right about at the time of the Meet.
So I won't actually be able to be definitely Definite until the end of the month.
Just in case.
So I'll have to be a Maybe for now.
