Yes, I have found that 'ID tags' reveal many flaws in assorted nickname sluglines. That's one reason I have been using 'quotation marks' a lot lately.

and shortened it to a simpler and humbler 'sumo-intellectual' self descriptor.

I have noted your presence elsewhere here-abouts with some enthusiasm as I often do when new names appear in our ranks having either something to offer, something to say or a really funny twist on established norms.
The confusion of , both as a space for individual creative embellishments and as a surprising, sometimes paranoia inducing, computer-code trick of the light, is but one (or two) of the many whirleds of h2g2 to be explored. And again I do thank you for your fresh insights! And some good memories.

Hmmm... that's wierd. A whole new sub-section I've never seen before called 'Book of the Future- visions of 2020'. And in a powder blue screen in a skin called 'alabaster' that is unlike the h2g2 alabaster I know and love. Feeling confused and dizzy. Must sit down. Oh wait, I am sitting. Hmmm...

I'm glad you posted that link because some day, one day, in the soon-to-be, I will once again have full time access to the interwebby and sufficient time to properly indulge my online addictions.

They say that the rather remote rural area into which I moved two years ago will join the 21st century techno-revolution in maybe a year or so.

For the present I remain at the mercy of a rural public library which has somehow hard-wired itself into the web. They allow me a couple of hours each week. In summer it becomes a battle of wills with youngsters all around doing something called 'Summer Library Computer Camp' which looks like all the world to me to be nothing more than electronic donkey tail placements and Pacman races.

But soon, I will have time and means to explore the 2020 visions and I will be grateful for your direction.

i have been offline because of Hurricane Flossie and because of electrical problems in our community... so i know about the hassels of internet connectiveness or its reverse therein... and i haven't been reading the articles either... but DNA wrote one and i hope to find it one of these days... i cant find an index...

Flossie, eh. Not sure how they got to 'F' for Flossie while 'D' for Dean was still tracking into the Caribean. Course I never really thought about that until you mentioned it, but yes now you mention it, I had heard of a Flossie that was in the Pacific and threatening to hit Honolulu? Don't tell me you're in the Galapagos! Can't think of anything else between the mainland and the Hawaiian Islands.

May I say how nice it is to find that someone has unearthed the Book of the Future? The articles you've found are the ones that made it into the printed version of the book and, while they are (of course) very good, there were several that I thought were exceptionally good but didn't get voted in (probably because most of the voting was done by the people who were using the site regularly). Altogether, I believe, there were about 1000 articles submitted.

I should add, to stay vaguely on topic, that when I first looked at the site I assumed that other users chose strange nicknames because they were famous people who wanted to keep their identities secret and, being not famous, I used my real name. I've since regretted missing the opportunity of having a Witty Moniker as I'm sure it does have an effect on the way people read your postings.

Thank you, I've always wanted to be thought of as droll - although I'm never entirely sure what it means!

If you go to my space and click on any of the BotF articles, you should see a list of categories on the left hand side that will give you access to all the articles.

I used to be surprised that so few hootooers knew about BotF but (apart from the fact that the BBC found themselves "unable" to publicise it after it got started) I've been around here long enough now to realise how little exploring most people do, perhaps because a lot of people access the site from work?

Enjoy the articles - I should add that some contributors were very unhappy with the standard of editing so you might find it worthwhile looking at the unedited versions.
