Bit early and i know this is a tabloid, and the Daily Mail to boot.
But please bob let this not be true...

And not just any evil scientist - no, the claim is she will be playing The Rani.

I recall Moffat saying he wants to focus more on new enimies rather than bringing older ones back...
Besides, whats actually WRONG with the Rani? (i'm a yung'un)

I remember him saying that too. I also remember thinking 'Ah, so we can expect to see another old enemy returning then, 'cos that's bound to be a red herring'.

Well it could be interesting. I haven't seen any of the Rani stories, so not familiar with the character. But it could be interesting to have Gillian Anderson in Dr Who.

After her thing in Bleak House, I think she could play a villain properly.

*watched the Colin Baker story with the Rani and the Master*
hmmm... interesting... although i found both of them a bit irritating in this one...
Still, if the make over they gave the master is anything to go by they could easily do a great Rani story

I'm trying so hard not to be cynical and mention the name 'Joss Whedon' but it is becoming a lot more difficult.

Interesting. They do seem to get actors in several roles in Dr Who, or is it just my imagination?

Looks like it is, Ictoan. Looks like there's also a new-look TARDIS and the return of a Moffat character.

I do hope the primary blue colouring is just due to the camera/processing settings - it's a bit in yer face!
Ah well, we shall see, could be fun but keeping River Song in does at least show it won't be a completely divorced new era and there is some continuity there.

"They do seem to get actors in several roles in Dr Who, or is it just my imagination?"
Yes there are examples of actors/actresses playing multiple roles in the series ...
- I seem to recall David Troughton appeared back in the 1970s before reappearing in Midnight last year.
- Also Jacqueline Hill played Barbara (1st doctor's companion) and later reappeared in a 4th Doctor story ... Meglos.
- Oh and I just realised there's a very obvious example of recent years ... Freema Agyeman ... appeared in Army of Ghosts, and then reappeared as the character's cousin.
- the actress who play ChanTho in Utopia, reappeared as the fortune teller in Turn Left.
- Lalla Ward played a character, then reappeared as Romana's reincarnation.

River Song ... didn't she say something along the lines of "Oh you look so young" when she first met TD/DT?
