I wonder about the quality v quantity thing. When Steven Moffat has one episode to write in a year, such as 'Blink', it is outstanding. But when he tries to write half a dozen or so, does that spread the genius around, leaving each episode a bit thinner for truly breathtaking moments?

I think you might be onto something there, Bluebottle. Eleventh Hour was one of the best episodes I've ever seen but Beast Below and V of the Ds were pretty awful and, despite his scripts, the Angels episodes were far from inspiring.

Re Post 3353, it was explained in the script that the Angels were at a different point in their evolution from when The Doctor met them in Blink.

Good to see the Silurians are back but I have a horrible suspicion that we'll get another re-boot a la the Cybermen and, it appears, the Daleks.

As for Amy's choice, I think it has been clear that it's been whether or not she loves Rory enough to marry him- whenever their marriage may be.

As for Amy's Choice, I think it was ok. The dreamlord was the Doctor's alter ego (though I'd hoped it would involve the land of fiction or the celestial toymaker) and the choice wasn't The Doctor or Rory but whether she loved Rory (see above.) I expect the snow was an accidental bonus from location filming but it certainly helped the atmosphere of the episode.

As for Amy's crack, I'm sure we'll get a full description from The Doctor at some point (or Rory for that matter.smiley - winkeye)

Doctor Who, despite its faults, is still one of the best things on tv and I look forward to saturday smiley - ok

It's just been pointed out on billiedoux that Amy's Choice took place entirely on the TARDIS, something which I know a lot of people have been asking for.

I'd agree. Finally the series has hit its stride. Essentially it's a rehash of the Pertwee story but very good.

If it's done it's job right there'll be a few children worried about getting sucked into damp patches of earth, and walking around darkened graveyards ...

The village was called 'Cwmtaff'. How does that hold up as a Welsh place name? Valley of the Taffs?

One of the things that I found increasingly irritating about the previous Tennancy was the quasi-religious hero-worship that was aimed at the Doctor. People cheering, clapping en masse, hi-fiving and so on whenever he did something a bit special. So I quite enjoyed the bit in this where the Doctor made a fairly rousing speech, Meera Syal burst into applause, and then petered out in embarassment as everyone stared at her.

the river that runs though cardiff is the river taff

Too slow. That was an adult heartbeat... I think it was more timing fail by the effects people.

Also, a foetus that new probably wouldn't even have a detectable heartbeat.

Anyway... now I've done with the pedantry; I'm quite disappointed there wasn't a Pigbin Josh present as a tribute to Doctor Who and the Silurians. smiley - silly "There's sumthin' in moi baaaaarn!"

Interesting bit with the Doctor obviously connecting with the kid and then letting him run off unaccompanied, fully expected him to suddenly realise and go after him. So, not only has the Doctor failed to protect Amy so far, he's failed to look after the most vulnerable member of the group remaining. Too much big picture, not enough detail in his thinking?

But all rather well done, very enjoyable and looking forward to next week.

:Thinks:

How come no-one has yet mentioned that bit near the start where the Doctor commented on future-Amy-&-Rory coming to 'wave at them (hello? / danger?)

Guess it falls to me then.

Really good episode, enjoyed it. Wasn't expecting it to be a 2-parter so was pleasantly surprised when the credits rolled
