i do have some good memories of cars

the first one was my friend colleen's 1952 plymouth belevedere

she was just like the one on the left... yellow and black...
all original paint inside and out
and original upholstery which was that lovely yellow

the paint was worn down to the shiny metal on the front doors where we put our arms when the windows were open...


Belva took colleen and me across america from colorado to cape cod (and back again) via the mississippi river valley and niagra falls
colleen was 18 and i was 30... she had a license and i did not
so she drove and i had the hammer and map
the hammer was for after Belva decided to stop
i would get out
open up the hood
look around under there
bang around randomly
close the hood
get back in the car
and colleen would try her and normally she would start
if she didnt
we would have a picnic or something and try again later

we always met someone interesting when she did that

and we arrived home back in colorado with visegrips ringing the oilpan from all the garage stops we had had to make and all the mechanics who left one on there


did i mention we were blond?

heh heh heh

guess who really does have more fun!!

it was from that trip that we decided that every car has a spirit
a soul if you must know
and it is female

and she has been 'reinCARnated' into a car body
because of bad KARma in the realm of womanhood
from her past life

like she used her feminine wiles for no good
or something
i dunno i havent ever done anything like that

aaaaanyway...
all cars have female spirits cuzza bad karma because the worst punishment or place to work out sssssssstuff for a female (or for me and colleen anyway) is a greasy ol car engine place thingie...

so i have always named my cars pretty feminine names
and talked nice to them
and stroked them and all
to make it all kinda sorta better for them

and they have always taken care of me
worked for me
and when they couldnt they let me down easy
like... they got me to the mechanic
or... hehehe... rather... us!

i recently had to sell my Suby Two
(second one... drove her home from purchase singing ala sinatra style 'suby suby two ...things turned out so right ...for strangers ...in ...the ...niiiiiight')

and am currently looking for Suby Three

What a beautiful old car! That's when you *could* fix a car with a hammer! These days you need to hook them up to a computer...

I'd love to have done a "road trip" like that - I'm jealous!
