A Conversation for Talking Point: Cars

My first car was a maroon 3 door Ford Fiesta Mk3, with the old 1.1 litre engine first used in the Ford Anglia.
I paid £245 for her on Ebay. She was quite tidy, had been fairly well cared for, and I loved her - yes, "her" - I called Lexie (as she was an LX1.1).
She wasn't a performance car, but we all fitted in (me, wife, and 2 kids), and she carried us about well enough. She needed a bit of work with the gears when visiting my parents in the Yorkshire Dales. She was fairly reliable - the old engine was simplistic, the only fault I encountered was a broken thermostat, which cost me £2 to replace from a scrapyard!
She was never referred to as "the car", she was always "Lexie". She was one of the family. I was really sad when I sold her - we wanted a bigger car, as my eldest daughter was cramped, and we often wanted more space in the boot. I sold her to a friend at work - who promptly gouged half the side off trying to park her in a garage!
I bought a Mondeo... it lasted a year before the engine management computer comitted suicide. Replacing it would have cost more than the car was worth. I bought a Punto after that. It rusted into oblivion. I now have an Escort Estate - Meg. It's nice... but despite the name, it's still "the car"...
If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to pay someone to find Lexie, and have her restored!
She's got a space reserved in my garage, next to the Aston Martin...
