"I wrote to the BBC once to suggest it, but got no reply."

I know the feeling. A few years back, when h2g2 was really struggling, I emailed the BBC and suggested that, for a *very* tiny budget*, they could mandate that every new production on BBC TV and Radio had its own h2g2 page, which could be publicised as a central point for people to start conversations about the show and in some cases ask questions where the show's staff could see them.

I got a standard "Thank you for taking an interest" email response.

(*A photocopied A4 sheet to add to the "Producer's manual" explaining how to create a page and give it a title, and however long it takes to generate a block of U-numbers to hand one out with each.)

One conclusion to draw from it is that the BBC is happy to let h2g2 run its course as an experiment, to sink or swim under its own steam. If the project dies, then this is an effect to be observed and studied for future reference, rather than one which triggers some sort of intervention.

A new front page with a few bells an whistles is one thing but the question remains what does the BBC expect to get out of h2g2 and how will it be used. Will it still be categorised as 'Weird and Wonderful'

>> I'm panicking because it sure appears that they're doing away with the stand-alone "My Conversations" pane.

This is concerning others too. Can I suggest that while we're waiting for the go ahead from the Eds, that someone goes and looks at the beta feedback page and see what the Eds' response to the convo pane issue was then? It may be something they're trying to fix now, or can add in later.

I would miss the convo pane too it is so much quicker when we have a lot of convos we are following.

I am also having trouble tonight in posting on the new site as it keeps telling me there is something offensive in what I have written and to re-write. Well, I could write something offensive in reply, because that is nonsense, but I am hoping it is a glitch that will have been ironed out when I come online tomorrow.

I was able to post fine yesterday and I absolutely deny typing anything offensive.

Here's the Beta Feedback page convo list. I can't find anything about the convo pop-ups. Can anyone else see it? Was the pop-up active in Beta?

WS means a message when trying to post in the new site. Guess that that message is not built in and the moderation notice is.

I guess they're busy trying to get barlesque up and running and don't have time to stop and write new error message codes about bugs they're trying to fix smiley - winkeye

Just a thought - this is a very busy thread, not everone has time to read it all, so may accidentally have missed the eds' request. I've changed the title of the thread, which may help - but if anyone objects, feel free to change it back. smiley - ok
