Yes, but the new site has *not* been implemented yet.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Okay, the auto-nanny is broken that's for sure... I just tried to post a sentance that had no words in it that could be considered offensive by anyone ever and was told it had been blocked.

The new site is live, therefore it has been implemented

It's the "e r m" smiley that's causing problems... how odd.

Just testing if it's the forum code that is causing the problems.

No, that's not it. smiley - erm

The H2G2 Editors

Hi all.

Can we ask you to please, please hold off testing the new site for the time being. Yes it is live and publicly accessible, but can we reiterate that it is still quite unstable and so we would appreciate it you could refrain from posting, etc, until we've completed our own tests and fixes. We hope this won't take long - and the redirect will come into effect once we've ironed out the problems - but we will make another announcement when it is ready. Can we also ask you not to post to our Feedback page until then, as we know about the errors that are being thrown up.

We will put up an announcement to this effect on our From the Editors/Announcements page.

Many thanks and sorry for the delay. It will be worth it in the end. Normal(ish) service will be resumed as soon as possible.

Regards
Sam and Chris

Thanks Eds smiley - ok

Have you ever seen one of those experiments where you put a three year old in a room with a big bowl of sweeties, tell them not to touch it and then leave the room? smiley - laugh

See what I mean Drdot Dreadful , you always need the old site to fall back on. In fact the old site is so embedded into the web in general and the BBC in particular that it should never be removed. It requires a bit of reverse engineering to ensure that the new site does not interfere with it.smiley - biggrinsmiley - ok

That is nonsense AB - you don't "always" need the old site. They haven't finished implementing the new one yet so the exisiting one is still all up and running while they do that - when they have got the new one going they'll put in the redirect and you won't need the old one any more.

What Kelli said... the BBC's servers would get awfully full if they kept old versions of everything live "just in case".

PS to Ed's
Shouldn't you put out another announcement.
Undated - The new H2G2 is deferred until further notice.
Remember that the old h2g2 was blogging before Blogs and twittering before Twitter and Facebook is but a snap of what h2g2 could really be.
Sorry but it needs to be said.

Ancient Brit did you ever drive a Ford Popular? smiley - tongueout

Actually I'm very fond of them, it was my dad's first car. But nothing wrong with a bit of the latest Aston Martin as well....even if it takes a few ticks to get it up and purring reliably.

You can call me TC

I'm catching up on the backlog here. So far I've found Mr Dreadful with some blue paint in the broom cupboard. I hope there's going to be room for me.

Thanks Eds for letting us know what's going on.

The old h2g2 doesn't need to remain active but researchers have a lot of data there.
What happened to 'Book of the Future' could happen to the uncapitalised h2g2.
The old DNA hub still limps along but not all the sites.
Long live the old h2g2 and the DNA connection in all its connotations. smiley - cheers

From what I can gather, the DNA HUB is only still there because the last person who was responsible for it got reassigned and now there's nobody to contact to close it. But that's the BBC for ya. smiley - silly
