h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

We've got some very good news indeed to share with you all. After much work internally fighting h2g2's corner (think oil tankers trying to do three-point turns) and after the successful MOT* last year, we can officially confirm that a re-fresh of the site is definitely going to happen. h2g2 is moving forwards. This is a tribute to you the Community. Our own BBC Powers-that-be really do value the site and the community that has lovingly nurtured it.

Nothing's going to radically change on h2g2. It will of course look a bit different (hopefully much better) but the ethos of the site remains the same: sharing knowlege, learning from others, and in the spirit of Douglas Adams, celebrating curiousity and wonderment of the world by writing about it. We're going to re-focus on the Edited Guide, and by raising the profile of the site a bit, hopefully attract more users to share their own take on life, the universe and everything.

The work is starting now and will continue over the summer and we will of course keep you updated every step of the way. We cannot say exactly when the new site will go live - you all know about deadlines and great big whooshing noises - but we're confident it will be in place by the autumn.

We will shortly be making another announcement asking for volunteers to do some user testing so watch this space for further updates.

Thank you all once again for your patience and support. h2g2 is still a brilliant idea. In a way, modern technology is only just catching up with it. Let's see if we can lead the field once again.
