hi everyone

i am in the midst of gargantuan domestic upheaval (moving)
and other stuff so i havent been around much lately but...

reading this

and what its about makes me want to respond in a way that in the past
caused some to respond to me in a negative way but...
but but BUT
it has to be said
because it is true

my experience from almost day one on here had some definite offputting events in it
yes i met some great folks and had some good times
but the occasional extremely rude or gross or crass or even hateful things some folks said to me
did put me off
and it was only because i was desperate for a place to express myself
that i stuck around

so with a grain of salt take this under advisement
there are some folks on here who are very mean
and they should not be allowed to continue the way they do
if you all want to keep this place going

i am about to lose my internet connection again for a while so i need to say this
one other thing that goes along with what i said there about mean folks on here

i believe some of them stalk newbies
especially bright flamboyant energetic vigorous ones
and then during times when noone will notice
reach in and jab at them
and then erase the postings in their own conversation lists

the newbies never come back
so there is no real record of the attacks

i believe this is happening
or has happened

i dont cqre if you think i am paranoid
just so some of you look for it
check for it sometime
see if it really could be happening

really i dont know why anyone would want to do that
but i think its happening
so go ahead if you want and kill or ignore this messenger
but please
consider the message

I don't know about researchers attacking in that way, but I have definitely seen it in PR.
For example 'This Researcher' in the thread
F48874?thread=7411206 He actully ed in post 86 but couldn't resist the urge to come back five posts later and kick ford's towels efforts again.

That's not a great example; Ford's Towel is far from a newbie and This Researcher was not applying harrassment. It was just the same level of robust objection that others had made on the same thread. There was pretty obviously no intention of scaring FT right off the site, but urging that writer to remove one entry from PR -- for well-stated and arguable reasons.

I don't think we should be using this thread for spreading rumours and accusations.

Sorry you had such a bumpy ride when you first joined Fluffy. I know exactly what you mean about the prodding and poking, then unsubbing so 'friend's cannot see what is going on. Hopefully this has all stopped now

Shagbark, it is rather unfair to have a go at a particular Researcher for doing what PR is all about, which is to weed out and advise upon suitable Entries for the Edited Guide. This Researcher is doing no more than that. There is no harassment made, nor intended as far as I can see. The advise is fairly consistent from most of the reviewers, including Scouts

It's not what he is doing , so much as how he is doing it.
I also saw the same kind of treatment on an article on climate change.
Perhaps we are a bit off topic but if we are going to have a refresh, maybe that will further drive people away ( and not only newbies).

We don't know exactly how the refresh will show h2g2, yet. All comments in PR should really stay there, as they don't have anything to do with other areas.

To be honest though, This Researcher has been rather lenient with FT. I've seen worse
