Ye gods, there must be thousands of dormant accounts since Rupert. I wouldn't envy the job of anyone doing that manually.

It's a shame there isn't a report that could sort by 'Last Posted', and then determine a cut off date. But if there isn't, there isn't, I guess. And I guess that's another reason we need to migrate to something a bit more up to date...

h5, the way I tested it was to try to post to a different BBC board. If it will let you, you're in. smiley - ok You're right though, it's so simple I couldn't quite believe that was all there was too it.

smiley - fairy

How about at least sending an announcement to everyone that wrote an edited guide, underguide or post entry?

At least do that much.

You seem to think that wouldn't be a big matter... Are you volunteering to collate a list of contributors?

I'm hoping there is a way to do a SQL search or some other data inquiry to pull these out.

I completely understand that resources are limited and I'm sympathetic to that. I'm just saying let's not just off-hand dismiss the idea of sending out some emails.

Please don't think I'm being adversarial here. I'm just making suggestions. I do think that anyone who has written an approved article for h2g2 would appreciate getting a message to let them know that they might not be able to access their old accounts.

"Peet - yes, your name may be truncated (note may; the techies are trying to make us an exception). Even if that happens, what's the worst that can happen? I really don't understand why it's a problem."

Being as polite as I can, your inability to understand why it is a problem doesn't make it any less of a problem. Just take my word for it - it's a problem. It's a huge problem. OK?

Email address & password entered, it tells me to enter a valid ID/email address and password. h2g2 ID & password entered, it tells me to enter a valid ID/email address and password.

I tried registering anew and it says the user name is already taken.

Hey ho.

And *if* we do end up with 30 characters limit for our names, then we just have a competition for the best 30 characters name...simple smiley - winkeye

I think I've registered a wotsit, but I think I already had months ago. I must have done - it had a different screen name to 'Roymondo', but there was no change on h2g2.

So, do I have two accounts (one BBC iD and one h2g2 one) or one?

smiley - erm

Effers;England.

I 'gave it a whirl' as suggested by Vip, and it appears 'Effers' is defo unacceptable, even 'Flying Ants; formerly Effers' is unacceptable....well it says, 'Not Allowed' to be exact. So I'll be the nice and respectably named, Flying Ants on most of Aunty...but via my h2g2 preferences, here...I can have my old profane name. Though I think I'll keep it like this for now...until the actual change happens. Because you never can tell.

Yeah change is terrifically smiley - cool
