And not forgetting if all the posts are going to be premoderated ,perhaps if everyone posted more than usual the beeb will have to pay lots of overtime to clear the backlog .

Well I am more than happy for my TV to be interupted if it helps save peoples jobs.

"I do agree with 'Mina', if we are not disturbed, it will not be an impressive action.
On the other hand I do not feel like giving the Moderators lots of work either.
Let us show we are here (and generate a load of web traffic) by being online for a while, only to browse the site, read some backlog in postings or finally read < <./>ThePost</.> > ( just only a divertion).

The moderators are outsourced and not BBC employess as I have often been told.

"So it does cost money, that is just what the whole issue is about (I think).
The BBC has to spend less, they stop producing expensive content, this means some will lose their job.
Posting on a premoderated site does cost more then the few bytes it does cost here.
There will be enough for the moderators already as most Researchers are not informed of these Forums .
Hmm, perhaps I give this system a break, do not be alarmed if you will miss my eyes. I will be lurking anonymous "

"solidarity forever, - cause the Union makes us strong"
I think that also is Joe Hill, or Joel Emanuel Häggstöm as he was born

RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky Posted May 22, 2005
Changing topic somewhat, <./>DontPanic-Moderation#7</.> has the following paragraph:
'It's also possible to put the entire h2g2 site into pre-moderation, so that everyone is effectively pre-moderated, but this has never been used, and would only be considered in a serious emergency. It's never been used globally, and hopefully never will be!'
In the interests of keeping the FAQ pages up to date, will we see this changed?

I don't see that needs to be changed - I'd consider a walk out by three unions to be a serious emergency as far as the Beeb is concerned.

Has anyone talked to a union representative to see if this boycott is a good idea?

When we picket we ask *everyone* not to cross the picket in support of our action. Managers, cleaners, members of the public.
I for one will consider posting here (knowingly of the picket) to be tantamount to crossing the picket line of the BBC. So being a rep and having solidarity for other fellow workers I will stay this side of the picket and not use hootoo so as not to be a scab.

I'm not really here Posted May 22, 2005
In that case I expect the never been used bit might need updating.
I don't know whether to boycott or not - although by leaving the BBC when I did that's one person at my level who won't be made redundant, so maybe that's my bit for the cause done?

Hi Ferrettbadger,
Some moderation is outsourced, but not all, by any means. There are a number of moderators and moderation teams within the BBC itself.
Reactive boards are only able to be reactive if they have hosts on hand when they are open, which is why some boards may be closed, or switch over to pre-moderation.
20 May 2005: BBC Industrial Action
Peta Posted May 22, 2005
Oh and, I should add...
If a board is closed it doesn't necessarily mean that that host is on strike, it may be that they're having to concentrate on their other duties instead. Most divisions would put 'running a radio station/TV broadcast' before opening the messageboard.

Azara Posted May 22, 2005
Since the Editors seem to have gone to some trouble to keep the site open (on pre-moderation rather than being turned off entirely), I'll be happy to come here as usual on Monday. I'll read entries in Peer Review and organise my comments.
