Up the Workers!

Oh, and the h2g2 staff too, obviously.

For anyone with really severe withdrawal symptoms, there is still a rump of survivors (nothing personal Tefkat) sitting round the campfire that has been burning since before the glorious BBC takeover.
All you need to be welcomed there is a virtual packet of sausages or marshmallows and a yahoo account.

Don't Panic!
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/n2g2/
and click on "Join this group".
You could be surprised at who may be there.
Just don't sit on the pile of old newspapers, that's my seat.

This is not to be regarded as an attempt at strike breaking. I expect everyone to regard it as a support group meeting, or a counselling session, but free speech will be guaranteed.

I shall refrain from visiting anything on bbc.co.uk on Monday in solidarity with the striking workers (good lord, that's gonna be hard!).

I'm not really here

I should think it would be better if people did visit, than if they stay away.

If no-one sees any disruption that occurs, then the Beeb will just think it doesn't matter.

Won't they notice a drop in viewing/listening figures?

And surely they can measure website traffic, and see the same thing?

20 May 2005: BBC Industrial Action

Post 59

echomikeromeo

I'd just feel like such a scab visiting the site during 'Industrial Action'. Like I was undermining the strike somehow.

What good would it do to view the disruption? Is having people watching blank screens really going to help the cause? I wouldn't complain about them, because I know why it's happening. So unless the BBC is flooded with complaints from people (other than me) having loads of people watch the disruption doesn't seem like it's going to have a major effect.

Besides, as Joe C said, it seems to make sense that they should be able to measure website traffic.

The unions have been calling for black screens - but it won't happen. They've always got prerecorded programmes, and as it says on BBC News, they'll probably contract some of the live work to outside companies.
