I have just been through a parents evening, which basically consists of half a dozen strangers telling me I'm no good at my job.

From post 50 >>>Most of the two weeks have to come out of our annual holiday.<<<

Intresting, to describe ones employment as "annual holiday." smiley - evilgrin

I sympathise Master B.

Being an instru(mental) teacher I always dreaded parents evenings. I'd spend 5 minutes with the parents of the hard-working/talented pupils smiley - starsmiley - angelsmiley - star and 30 minutes with the ones who were convinced that their little darlings were talented, enthusiastic and hard-working when they were, in fact, the exact opposite. smiley - monster

I do, ironically, miss all the Christmas activities I would have been anxiously prepping them for now, though. smiley - musicalnotesmiley - santasmiley - snowman

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

I'm looking forward to my 10 straight days off. What with weekends and bank holidays I need to take three days of annual leave to get my ten day break - my company doesn't shut down over christmas (but the heating is off smiley - brr) so if I'd used all my leave I would have to come in or shirk from home. smiley - smiley

Other firms I've worked for have stated that all employees must save three days for the xmas period, they often give 23 days annual leave - ie statutory 4 weeks plus the three days for xmas.

Actually, I have always wondered this: do teachers actually get an annual leave allowance over and above the school holidays?

clzoomer- a bit woobly

Excellent question! I've always wondered that as well. If they don't they must be the world's best budgeters, I'd spend my savings by July.....smiley - laugh

Oh, and btw, I noticed elsewhere that one of the BBC unions is in a strike position? Will that affect Hootoo in any way? I hope not! smiley - smiley

You'll have to ask Master B about holiday pay. I was always self-employed so, quite simply, if I didn't work I didn't get paid... which is why you'd always find me in a pub in the evenings and during the summer. smiley - discosmiley - ale

I understand

In what capacity were you present in the pub? As a bartender (earning money) or as a customer (spending money)?

No we do not get leave allowance! We are expected to be at school: rain, shine, blizzard or tsunami to educate the young day in day out. Nothing short of a prolapsed appendix or an impacted testicle will excuse us.

That actually happened to me once!
No word of a lie, the dog ate my homework, and nobody believed me.
It was history.
She also ate a book of erotica.
