The H2G2 Editors Started conversation Mar 17, 2003
Further to the previous announcement, the Conflict in Iraq Policy has now been implemented. All new postings and articles relating to the conflict in Iraq posted to h2g2 will now be failed, and members of the community are now asked to discuss the conflict on The Great Debate message board, at http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?x=yandamp;board=greatdebate only. Pre-existing conversations and postings will not be removed, unless it is thought that they may place anyone in danger.
The Iraq Conflict Guidelines at A735275 will help to explain the moderation policy that has just been implemented. They should be read in conjunction with the House Rules.

*stares at the h2g2 symbol for a while*
Now, *what* were people telling me? The BBC *don't* have a biased viewpoint?
Censorship, censorship, censorship.
This will be a regretted decision if this war ISN'T short and sharp.
*very very very angry*

I think this is a sad day for h2g2, for more than this reason.

We are not saying that you cannot discuss the issues on any BBC site, we are asking you to do it elsewhere ie an area that is geared up to it, not on h2g2. All conversations on the subject of the conflict are now being hosted by BBC News on The Great Debate messageboard at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?x=y&board=greatdebate.
This is the same policy as we enacted for the Afghan Conflict and for the General Election.
If you wish to make a complaint, the best way to do so is to do so via http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback.

Are the BBC *that* desperate for attention/viewers that they need to make a spectacle out of people debating this war?
Pathetic.

Not that it'll make any difference, of course.
Someone at the Beeb has screwed up big time here...

Thankyou for the information about complaints. As for the rest of your post, abi, you have just repeated what has already been said. We know what the policy is, and we don't like it, we are not under false impressions.

Erm, Abi, I'm not entirely sure I see on the "feedback" page which option would be appropriate, as the option I would be looking for is "complain about/comment on a BBC web site policy", and while there is the ability to comment on programmes and news stories, and "help using site and services", what I would be looking for would not be "help using site and services" but "comment on sites and services", and none of the options seem appropriate.

I can find a page where some discussion should be possible, but it requires me to register with the BBC again.
I am registered! Why do I have to get a new userid password, confirmed by email?

We certainly aren't under any false impressions. We're all intelligemnt folks. This is just typical BBC policy reflecting the actions of our charming PM. We can't be having any independant thought now, can we?
Oh well. We all should have prepared ourselves for this.
