kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

discussing the war in this particular thread will probably be considered provocative. i'm not sure if you are doing that deliberately or not. maybe read the page that this is a conversation of?

Please, please, stop talking about the conflict on h2g2. If the h2g2 Editors can't rely on our Researchers to uphold these guidelines, then we risk having the whole site switched into pre-Moderation for the duration.

None of us want that to happen. Feel free to comment on the policy all you like, we will do our best to support you and your concerns, but we cannot defy BBC Editorial policy.

Then i'd like to say I think that the gag is unnecessary and detrimental to all those fine democratic values. It induces a feeling that those values are optional and can be suspended at will.
Apart from that, haven't seen anything getting out of hand here yet. Those posts that cross a line can be post-moderated as before, and that's a foul enough compromise already.

I've read the new guidelines on discussions around the forthcoming conflict in Iraq, and I have to say I simply don't understand the BBC's editorial decision. What are they scared of?

I also realise that the h2g2 team may not have the answer to that question. And if they don't could they possibly point me in the direction of someone within BBCi who does.

Cheers
