Actually, it'll mean I'll be allowed them again. Since I was diagnosed with Gallstones, I've been on a low-fat diet, so no chocolate, and avoiding dairy products - no more pudding and custard at the BBC canteen since November.
But apparently, once you've had your gallbladder removed, you can eat more-or-less normally. So I'm assured.

I've had pudding and custard in a BBC canteen... The custard is OK, but I snapped a plastic knife trying to cut a slice off the sponge pudding.

So will they be fitting you with metal teeth so you can eat the sponge Jim?
17 May 2002: Double Helping of Custard for Jim
Jim Lynn Posted May 19, 2002
I've found the sponge to be quite nice, usually. The custard is of variable consistency, though - thick some days, weak and watery others.

*calls across atlantic ocean*
not wishing to sound a note of despondency here, but
whatever your man did in New York over the weekend did
nothing to improve speed...not to h2g2 or to bbc...
If anything it is somewhat slower...
...and now...back to the bbc canteen...

It's probably still happening. They're not due back until tomorrow or Wednesday so I doubt they would have finished it all yet.

I believe the correct British technical term is wonky.
And yes it's been getting worse every day for weeks.
I suspect someone has stuffed bog roll in the pipes somewhere. Or someone has dumped their BBC issue custard into the servers.

Well, seen from here, Frankie, you practically **live** in Bush House.
And what about us, Jim? Here in Europe it's just as bad. I'd only been going on to H2g2 from work and thought the firewall was trying to trick me. But now I'm at home and whether I use IE or Netscape, all the fun has gone because pages just don't download - I get the same "can't find the server" messages.
And thanks for telling us that about what you're allowed to eat when you've had your gallbladder out. I went into hospital with pains and discomfort in August 2000 and had my gall bladder out and was told AFTERWARDS not to eat any fats (I didn't know I had any problems with it until I'd gone in). I couldn't be bothered to keep to that, anyway, and haven't had many problems since, but it seems I was lucky. You put on loads of weight, though. Help! The worst part was 10 days without H2G2.
Typical isn't it - you get something and everyone else has to tell you about their own operation!
I hope you have a good rest and a successful operation, and when you come out, hope you have the energy to sort out the server problems to the East of the UK. There are loads of us out here, you know.

Actually I find it quite comforting that loads of other people are having problems accessing hootoo. So it really isn't just me who has been suffering for the last week now. Lets just hope that the servers and staff digestion improves in days to come

Amen to that!!
I`m finding that pages never seem to download completely, of late, and it`s hardly worth the effort.
Don`t suppose this posting will get through!

Postings of one and a half lines are OK. It's when you sit down and write a two-page philosophical thesis and post it that it disappears into the ether.
Key: Complain about this post
