Ah, yes, Internet Explorer's "friendly" error messages, specifically designed to make it impossible to find out what went wrong, on what page, or why. Completely worthless, but very friendly.

There's a small, compact browser called Netpositive on a cool, but obselete OS called BeOS, which I use. It gives you a haiku with every 404 message .
Unfortunatly, it doesn't work with most things, so I went back to using IE6.0. It also doesn't work with most things, but I'm addicted to the flashing computers in the systray .

Hello. I just logged into my Space when I noticed that I was subscribed to this conversation. I have never seen it before and I can't say I know what it is about. Any ideas as to how I was subscribed? I must admitt, I'm quite confusifuieded.

You are probably subscribed to this because you subscribed to the h2g2 announcements page. That's how I get subscribed.

Just to add a couple more details, all of which are strangely linked:
* Slow access from outside the UK - the reason the *original* downtime date had to be postponed is that Paul, the engineer at Internet Services who looks after the h2g2 servers is currently in New York installing a whole bunch of new servers, some of which will go towards speeding up access to the whole of bbc.co.uk for people outside the UK (and some people inside the UK as well, depending on your ISP). This will help h2g2 as well, as all requests have to go through the front end servers before our servers get them. Paul's doing all this over the weekend, so he's not going to be back in time for this Monday.
* And the reason we're putting it off from Thursday (which was the earliest that Paul could conceivably do it) is that I'm going in to hospital on Monday to have my gallbladder removed. So we thought that it might not be a good idea to schedule a server upgrade while I might still be in hospital recuperating. By next Monday I should at least be available by telephone in case anything unexpected comes up.
