Ah. Not that I'm saying it in the right place but I think it's grand. smiley - biggrin

h2g2 going back to its pre-BBC roots with a site run for the people by the people. Am I paraphrasing? Probably. In a good way? Maybe. Am I delighted? Perhaps. But I'm definitely happy. Although I have a few misgivings in the whole 'too many cooks spoil the broth' manner. But I'm sure after the usual teething problems things will run smoothly smiley - smiley As long as one of the curators remembers to feed Elton, AND change his cage smiley - winkeye

smiley - ok

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Gosh, I hope all this bad feeling about the concept of there being an 'elite' wasn't sparked off by my post... If it was then I have to ask why as I'd hoped that the inclusion of the smiley - silly smiley would have made its good humoured nature obvious.

Really for those that haven't been asked (I don't count myself here at all - I'm not that active & would be greatly alarmed/panicked, etc., if I had been asked !!) we ought to be grateful to those that have "been volunteered" - don't forget we'll have more hamsters to moan at smiley - evilgrin

Keep up the good work all you treadmill enthusiasts smiley - ok

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

If you could see the number of typos and dead links that Gnomon has fixed in the past 12 days you'd know that a) the job ain't a breeze, and b) the EG really needs fixing smiley - tongueout

I do? Far from it - Gnomon's perfectly welcome to spend all his waking hours going through EG entries looking for typos and dead links.

Perhaps I should go around *adding* typos to edited entries just for him to fix smiley - tongueout

BH, you have a whole new sport going there smiley - smiley

Most of my emails lately do seem to be from Gnomon with his corrections - I think we should just have him as a volunteer group on his own. I think the suggestion made by whoever changed the subject of this thread should be considered very seriously, then we could go around making typoos just to give the Bearded One something to do smiley - biggrin

Just to answer j'au-æmne's excellent points in post 46, as this is a very delicate editorially-based scheme we limited the invitations to the Scouts and Subs - with one noticable (and much-requested) exception. We also selected those who had shown an interest in joining up when we first broached the subject on those mailing lists.

As for the 'secrecy' of the group, it's just that I've not had time to create the volunteer page yet, and as we're not having badges for the scheme there's simply no way for us to say who they are without it looking like a rather sickly roll-call. When the page is created, we're hoping to have a drop-down so that people can see their names and understand why these people are providing feedback on editorial queries.

It's still early days yet though, so we're open to suggestions. But we're also keen to keep the scheme manageable, hence the small number of members for this group at the moment.

Right - on with the backlog smiley - smiley

Replying to Z in post 60 - spot on really. Only thing I'd add is that when we say that staff limits are down to resourcing, it's also down to desks. If we did have another staff member just now, they wouldn't have anywhere to sit smiley - smiley

And personally, I think the curators *should* be an elite, the best that the Subs and Scouts can offer - but that doesn't mean they should be elitist, which I don't feel they will be. Volunteering should always be about doing it for the site, and I think we have a very fine bunch of volunteers, both in this scheme and the others.

Now if you'll excuse me, I er, have something in my eye.

smiley - brave
