The H2G2 Editors Started conversation Nov 9, 2005
We are pleased to announce a couple of small developments for h2g2.
The first is a bug fix: Researchers who make use of the Journal Feature on Personal Spaces may have noticed that it has not been possible to contribute to discussions attached to old journals. This feature has now been fixed, so now you'll be able to revive those old passions and energise past discussions. Lucky you!
The second development came out of the 'My h2g2' consultation the h2g2 Editors ran with the Community a few months ago [A4692620]. We have restructured the 'Submit for Review' page to make the kind of material we are looking for in each forum a lot clearer. We've also added the Update Forum to the list of options on the drop-down menu. Finally, we've removed the option to submit entries to the Collaborative Writing Workshop as this workshop will soon be closing. In its place is the Edited Guide Writing Workshop, which combines the Writing Workshop and Collaborative Writing Workshop, and which will run alongside the Alternative Writing Workshop.
[Edited by the Editors to amend a typo in this announcement]

So anything which people want help with but don't plan to ever submit to the EG has to go in the AWW?

That has been the official position since the Writing Workshop and the Collaborative Writing Workshop were set up.

That's just freaky! A minute ago when I looked in this thread, Reefgirl's two posts were one after the other, but now there's two posts in between.

I've just tested out the new text on the "Submit for Review" page and it is an improvement . At least the old "If it is finished and meets the guidelines choose Peer Review" comment is gone, so well done. One small outstanding gripe is that the "guidelines" word should be hyperlinked to the Writing Guidelines, so that people don't think that it is just general behavioural guidelines on H2G2.
I wonder however if we could have gone a little bit further with this... The placement of the "Submit for Review" button, I think, is too close to the "Edit Entry" button, giving newer researchers the impression that they should submit all their articles for review. It's a button that should be chosen with care in the first place. Small gripe, but there you go.

I like the new hamsters. Much cuter than the old ones. Younger, more refreshed in appearance. I like h2g2 even if they pronounce it hootoo. keep up the good works.

I approve.
I like how PR is the last of the options - good tactic!
One question - what are the 'community art requests'? And why are they in the drop-down menu? Someone could conceivably mistakenly submit an entry to them.

You can sumbit your society entry there requesting and discussing the kind of graphic you would like for your society. Unfortunately it is 'not very active' due to lack of artists."
