The weekend's been cold dull and drab, which is OK really. If I was feeling up to it I'd be in the garden, pruning stuff that should have been pruned weeks ago. I'm feeling a bit down about going to work tomorrow, but I tell myself that if I keep going there, they'll keep paying me.
My PS needs work, too. I'm still waiting for inspiration...

Our weekend was wet and drab, but today it's Monday, so it's bright, sunny and almost warm! Wonderful and usual, sigh. Our garden is a swamp. (Location, location etc.)

Calling all Antipodeans!!! Where are yous all?
There are a few new Australasians around so I thought it worth trying to resurrect some Oz/NZ chat.
It's deep winter here in NZ. We've got an election coming up in a few months so the silly season is under way. There are an awful lot of English people over here at the moment for some reason . It's the 20th anniversary of the French blowing up the Rainbow Warrior this week so lots in the media about that too.
So, what's happening across the ditch?

Hello.
I'm actually staying in a small town just outside Shepparton in Victoria while I have a few days off. It's pretty dull here at the moment but at least it's not raining.
Kia Ora/G'day Two: a Sports Free Zone
Not raining here either I'm on the East Coast of the South Island. Our winter's actually been a bit brilliant. Lots of beautiful, still days; some sunshine; enough cold snaps to make it feel properly winter...

I've just spent another giddily exciting day in sunny Canberra... Another day spent hanging around in a variety of office blocks. Gosh, I know how to live.
Kia Ora/G'day Two: a Sports Free Zone
I don't remember seeing the CBD when I was in Canberra. I think we drove past parliament - is that the one built into a hill? Did they manage to get the office blocks to blend into the environment too

I haven't been to Canberra for ages but I don't remember seeing any largish buildings. I just remembered a place I heard about but haven't been to and can't remember what it's called. It's near Coober Pedy in South Australia and all or most of the buildings are underground! Literally blink and you'll miss it.

Well, the CBD's quite small. The big office blocks tend to be elsewhere. The ones I suffer in are in Woden, which is hidden from Parliament and the tourist zones by some hills. And yes, Parliament's really just a roundabout.

bet it is bigger then ours though....
tis freezing cold here, very chilly wind, even went down to 5degrees, had heaps of rain last week, our whole monthly allowance in one hit

The drought might have broken in these parts. We need some more rain over the next month before we can be sure.
It was about 9 or 10C today, at a guess - and there were people wandering about in shorts and t-shirts. A terrifying sight. All those blue limbs...

Bravo kea! Thanks for reviving this thread
As you say "the silly season is under way" - just the other day, our local Green (list) MP went public with an endorsement for the local Labour candidate! I guess the 'logic' being that, from a Green perspective, any Labour candidate must be better than the current Nazional party scumbag that is, supposedly, representing our constituency now

"There are an awful lot of English people over here at the moment for some reason"
As this is a sp*rts-free-zone, the reason behind that phenomononononon might best well be overlooked - although I think it's worth mentioning that the 'Barmy Army' is being v well behaved - NO arrests the other night in Wellington despite some serious quaffing

Ivan do you w**k or live near Woden? My girl lives somewhere near there (I believe), so if I could find a place next to you both when (if) I go on my Canberra jaunt, all the better!
The boy and I have been talking about retiring in New Zealand…neither of us have ever been there. But it looks pretty. And I’ve never met a Kiwi I didn’t like…
…and the Kiwis are probably more accepting and accommodating of whimsical hippies

I w*rk in Woden, in one of the uglier buildings. Home is the other side of Canberra 'City'. That isn't really that far, all things considered.

Woden's where the big bus stop is yes ?
(It's been a while since I was in Canberra last, all I remember is that all buses eventually end up at the one place )
I remember reading an article about a lady who was on Rainbow Warrior and was now living in NZ in a little eco-village type thing...they had their own chickens. I wanted to live there...but I think it might be a bit too much for the boy
Kia Ora/G'day Two: a Sports Free Zone
Was that the Bonfire in my Mouth woman?
So is the boy more a techno hippy, or maybe a bodgie hippy? There's plenty of them around too
Kia Ora/G'day Two: a Sports Free Zone
tanzen Posted Aug 3, 2005
I can’t for the life of me remember, it may very well have been
The boy’s not a hippie at all…but having said that I’m probably a faux hippie myself…although given the right circumstances it would be something I would readily embrace…oh well *sigh* time will tell…
Kia Ora/G'day Two: a Sports Free Zone
There's lots of hippies in Oz too though.
