I had only just gotten up, but I had only had 6 hours sleep . You can guess what I had been doing by the fact that I made it to 5th (!) on the Most Posts in 24 hours list.
I still only managed half the number of posts of a certain Australian researcher who likes to drink at 10 in the morning (and who was at the top of the list and didn't even have to stay up all night )
What time do the pubs open there tanzen?

Oh sweetheart, don't compare yourself to me...it all comes from having ridiculously little to do and very chatty friends
I have no idea what time the pubs open here to be honest (I'm not an early riser, even when there's involved ), but I know no "civilised" person should drink before 12pm...

It's alright - it's more of a competition with myself. I never seemed to make it onto the stats page when I thought I had posted heaps.
I've been particularly bored lately and so am amusing myself with trying to achieve such feats. I'm 4th on the list now, so if I feel up to it I might see if I can get to the top tonight
I have no idea what time the pubs open here either. It's all different now anyway - there are no set opening and closing times, only what it says on each licence I think. I rememeber when the pubs used to close at 11pm
But I'm not old enough to remember 6 o'clock closing

*kea slowly catches up*
ah, so when it's only 10 am there, it's already drinking time here!

Well if you need to up your postings I think you've found the best way to do it...I get bored to easily...don't tell w**k...
Well yes, the advantage of knowing the time differences in places is that i can figure out who I'm drinking for at any given time of day...but seeing as NZ and Japan are the only places with people I know who are actually ahead of us time-wise, I have had to be more imaginative in the past

It started off me being bored and trying to invent new threads for Ask that would keep me entertained.
My brain is toast at the moment so I'm not feeling up to the overly intellectual debate type threads, but I still wanted something reasonably interesting. I think the Asterix the Gaul thread seems to be the most successful in that sense.
When I first joined h2 it was very busy and not unusual to be up all night with everyone jumpng crazily from one thread to another. That kind of excited collective madness hasn't happened for awhile - it does seem to be quieter at the mo.
Timezones but I guess the or saki helps

I tend to avoid the big debate threads, mostly because I'm always some degree of brain dead, and because I can get myself into too much trouble ...so most of my time is in my PS or the music threads (and of course in the Having the Last Word Thread )...all happy harmless stuff...as a general rule...

I remember that! (I remember the teacher asking us to have a debate about it at Intermediate school.) Yes, I am coming out as old!

Exactly, as in 6 in the evening. We're talking a very looooong time ago. It was known as the 'six o'clock swill', as all the drinkers (99% of them men) gulped as much beer as possible, then drove home for tea. Getting rid of it was a very good idea indeed! (I think it existed in the first place to make sure that drinkers would go home, and not drink all night, but the risk to drivers was greater than the risk of a few people staying out all night.)

It gets worse, Tanzen - I can remember when pubs never opened on Sundays at all...

I can remember the grown-ups being happy about the end of the 6 o'clock swill. It was a truly stupid idea - close the pubs at 6, so people can't get drunk - yeah, right. All that meant was the pubs got crowded at 5 and everyone slammed down half a dozen pints in an hour and then drove home drunk to continue drinking at home. Ludicrous. I remember the way my grandfather reeked of alcohol on weeknights...
