Calling for entries with an antipodean flavour
Mrs Zen Started conversation Mar 29, 2011
Hi
Good morning - good evening - g'day
You may or may not be aware that I am putting together a collection of h2g2 entries (EG, UG, Post Articles, Journals) to show off just how good the writing and art are on this site. It's proving a challenge - not too much about one country - not too much in one style - and I realised I've only got one entry about a country south of the Equator and that is one of Willem's wildlife pieces.
The kicker is that the entry has to be by someone who is still here because - not being the BBC - we have to get their permission to use their work.
So.... any suggestions?
Ben

Hi Ben,
Are you wanting writing *about* antipodean countries, or writing about something in those countries?

Hi Kea
The h2g2 Community Consortium is putting together some stuff - this collection of entries - a video - to promote the general awesomeness of the site, and to showcase some of the writing. We're not the BBC so we need permission from the authors. This sort of started in the Favourite Entries thread in Ask but it's not just edited entries, it's things from the Post, UnderGuide entries, even Journals. As I said - we need permission. I want the collection to be relatively balanced, some entries about the UK, others about Ireland, some about the US, others about Europe, and I realised that I've got none about Australia and New Zeeland. I've got one about Africa from Willem, and I may have one about Asia, but Oz and NZ are really bad omissions because so many of our researchers come from there.
The idea is to include the very best of h2g2 - so entries that are surprising or above average in some way - that are about things most people don't know about, that take a sideways look at something, that provide personal insights.
Hopefully this explains a bit what this is about.
Hi Heleloo - I'll take a look at your entry. Thanks for suggesting it.
Ben

Thanks BadZen.
We've got our 42 entries now, but there may be some last minute reshuffling.
