Well, I struggle, but I *think* I understand the economy. It certainly has a big enough effect on us right here and right now...
There are a lot of old people who realise that Don Brash is more dangerous than the naive and hasty realise!

There are things about econimic theory that I don't understand,
But I do know that there is no such thing as unlimited growth.
My reading of economics has tended to be articles discussing things like Marilyn Waring's work on the importance of including unpaid work in the GDP, or how real costs like pollution aren't included in mainstream accounting. As a result I see mainstream economics as being a _very_ limited range of theories that don't reflect reality particularly well.
The statistic that something like 90% of all wealth generated globally is now generated by financial transactions not by actually producing anything is also something I find bizare and appalling.
I'd love to read some basic economic theory that was written without the idealogical perspectives, if there is such a thing.
I used to read Brian Easton in the LIstener quite a bit. I always found him interesting.

Yes, Brian Easton was good. Where has he gone, BTW? I had missed him, but not known why..

I think he is still there, just not every week. He's in this week's Listener, but I haven't read any for awhile.

Thank you very much !!
I think the rest of the world is sleeping at the moment...or maybe they;re just avoiding me...but it all points to the same thing...boredom...

Oh that's no good...would you like some ?
I've been bored too. I stay up late 'cos that's when h2 gets busy, but even then it's been quiet lately
I thought I might befriend some Americans - what time are they on h2?

tanzen Posted Jun 15, 2004
Thank you, and makes little tanzens very happy !!
I have no idea when the Americans come on...most of the people I've met in here have been people in the UK who work night shift, and a few Americans and Canadians who tend to stay up late...
...oddly enough...I only really know one Aussie...and he's hardly in any more......

*sips some *
Help yourself to more
So, I just lurked a bit on your PS - are you really getting married on h2? (I haven't made it to the end of the Tanzen Ranger thread yet).

tanzen Posted Jun 15, 2004
I don't understand it...it's like everyone has this instinct to just not show up...except for me...I'm always here...
Anyway, I do have plans to marry Warrior Ranger, in the library (On the "Having the Last Word" thread) but she's a little too sore at the moment, so we may have to push back the date a little...

I just wandered off into the internet and got lost for awhile. I have to go lie down now, but I'm sure I'll be back sooner or later
Ah so there is an hootoo wedding. Interesting that the Having the Last Word thread is still going . I'll pop over for a look

No worries...
The "having the last word" thread stopped being about having the last word a long time ago, much to the chagrin of the person who started it
We're actually thinking of making a movie out of it...there's been a lot of drama in there

Did someone mention ?
(Actually, can I have some aspirin and things like that? I'm feeling dreadful and wondering how to break a fever...)

You probably don't want ot hear this then, but the fever is your body's way of killing off the viruses, so unless it gets out of hand it's a useful thing
Lots of fluids, rest and time will work wonders. If you did have lemon (with a bit of honey) that'd help especially if you have a sore throat (and can get it down) as it's antiseptic. Oranges or anything high in Vit C are good too. You probably know all this and are cursing me for giving advice instead of aspirin
Hope you get some relief soon though - I always get impatient sitting such discomfit out

oh yeah I seem to remember dropping in a few times a while back and wonder what the hell was going on
I just rejoined the Love it or Leave it thread - I started it over a year ago and it's still going (on topic!) . Hardly the repository of cutting edge debate on h2 I know, but still...

My Dad always told me the best thing for a fever was ...
And yeah, the HTLW thread has gone a little bonkers...I wonder if that would have anything to do with the fact that I'm there ??
Morning all...half an hour at work and already counting down how long it will be before I get to hit the pub...
