It's probably Baroque/Rococo furnishings, popular in the 17th and 18th centuries, with revivals in the late 19th century.

wha'? me leg is missing? how did that happen? 
oh, well, it's not like it was the first time. I remember once in 1654 in jerez. must have been a wednesday. i had been drinking in the pubs all night and went all the way back to the ship before i noticed that i only had one leg to stand on.
by that time it was obviously too late to go back to look for the 
in limb. once you realize you only have one leg you can't convince yourself that it is possible to walk on only one
