thats funny
It is especially hard to get drinks when you are under age and look younger then you really are

It's funny, coz during my teens I always looked older than I was. This made buying drinks easy and I never got asked for ID. Then, shortly after I turned 18 and was legally allowed to buy drinks I got asked for ID. Now everyone thinks I look younger than I really am. I guess I should be flattered, I certainly hope I stay young looking as I get older.
A friend of mine went to the US with a group from his college and they went drinking, some of them were under 21 but they shared ID and got away with it. It's difficult as they were legally allowed to drink back in the UK. Anyway, they absolutely stunned the other patrons of the bar by the amount they could knock back. They had a table full of empty bottles in front of them because they were used to drinking pints of stronger beer. Sadly this country probably drinks far too much ( as I sit here nearly finishing my first bottle of wine).

I think the whole drinking age thing is stupid. They should at least lower it to 18

Proper English pubs are but I get really annoyed at these new ones that are popping up all over the place. They belong to chains and are standardised. They try to look like traditional pubs but they have no character. I like spit and sawdust

"ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
Scream
Scream
My internet connection just went down, and I now think I know what a panic attack is, so glad to be back......... I hate these stupid "chain" pubs that are as you say springing up all over the UK; I've have done a sociological study (In my spare time) in Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Manchester.
There are several conclusions from this in-depth study.
Firstly, and foremost, the places that people go to to drink, are governed by the place, and not the nature, atmosphere ETC., of the place. And on the bottom of the list as to why most people, especially the younger generation (thats anyone younger than me; 24), is the drinks on sale.
Secondly, the most popular places in any town/city are the "trendy" places.
Now; a trendy place is merely a place that attracts a large customer base.
Thirdly, of all the pubs in a town/city, it is the trendy place that serves the worse Beer; especially Fourthly, and perhaps most strangely, when people in such trendy places are questioned, they say "the beer is awful", which begs the question as to their sanity..
Finally (for now), the most expensive places in any town/city are the trendy places;
So, in conclusion;
Majority of people like to go to Trendy places to drink, at such places the beer is the most expensive in the given town/city, but also the most awful beer; it might be a good they sale, but it is not kept properly,
I can't figure why this is....
If I go to a pub and the is really good, then I can drink upwards of 10-14 pints in an evening, where the
is poor, I am often pushing it to manage 4 or 5 before I switch to vodka or wisky....
"We will fight them in the bars, we shall fight them in the clubs and in the brewerys, but we will never, never, drink a god-damm awful again...."

It seems that with everything, trendy=expensive=bad. True with clothing too. I still don't get why people pay large amounts of money to walk around advertizing for Aberconde and Finch.

Right, sit down on this sofa here and start doing deep breathing exercises. In... and out.... in.... and out. Here's a pint of and a cigarette. There, do you feel calmer now?
The town I live in seems to have more pubs per square foot than any other place I know and luckily there are plenty of very good ones. The town I live in is a small Kentish seaside town and still very quaint in the true sense of the word. The problem is that my town has become extremely fashionable for some unknown reason and a lot of Londoners visit for the weekend. Some of the pubs are now becoming horrible mock-traditional places with disgusting, badly kept beer. Thankfully, there are still a lot of pubs with their strong local clientile and b****y decent beer so this makes me happy I do love where I live.
Oh, if I am served a pint which is obviously badly kept, or the dregs of the barrel or even worse, gone off, then I take it straight back and suggest they change the barrel. no-one has ever argued yet
