I agree with your aims. The bbc technophobes strike again. The inability to post url's seriously affects useability (that's what the www is for, for goodness sake)

I might send a letter, but the postage would kill me. I'd have to send it overseas.

The way you guys at the BBC have clamped down on things here, we really don't have much to work with. Give us back pictures, and links, and whatnot! Just do it. I swear, we're not gonna do anything evil with them.

Got frustrated with the conversation gestapo to the point that I was off h2g2 for over a month, and checked back last week, but it's still crap. These are reasonable requests.

I absolutely agree! The moderation stuff is [word in common usage since the twelfth century removed by moderators]. Is it what DNA would have wanted? Is it [word often used pre-watershed television removed by moderators].
Seriously, someone asked about information on a virus and I was prevented from informing them of the URL for a page on Symantec's website. Now, pardon me if I'm missing something, but it wouldn't take me very long to type "Symantec" into a search engine and find it - even if it wasn't painfully obvious even to a rank novice exactly what the URL is.
At the very least we should be allowed to put out own email addresses in postings, so folks can mail us the links.
