Here in the good ole USA it's still Wimpy.
I actually had a good Sodit... hung out with the folks, my Mom and I got tattooed together (sorry, I'm a little obsessed with my new novelty body marking), and Wimpy felt just like that.
Four minutes until Sept. 11 over here. Kind of hard to believe it's been a whole year.

They're saying "high risk" now. I don't know about the colors. I haven't watched telivision for a while now... may catch some tomorrow. I just read the risk level on AOL.

Looked on CNN website (suprisingly uncommonly used resource around here!) - "Code-Orange" *is* "High-Risk".
Fingers crossed for you guys (and the rest of the world).
Things here in England are going crazy over the 9/11 anniversary - just as they've finished the Princess Diana 5(?) year anniversary and 2 week build up to it. No disrespect intended to either events or those people who've been affected by them - but if the world's press don't stop going headline crazy over every event, and it's anniversaries for years to come, the world will be in a permenant state of media-induced grief. I think that it would be a lot more fitting for people to learn the lessons and move on. Let people commemorate anniversaries in their own ways, whether that be hanging a flag out the window, or just saying a quiet prayer in the morning. We should stop feeling as if we all have to commemorate it publicly so that people don't think that we don't care.
This *is* my own humble opinion. As I said - there is no disrespect intended to anyone or anything here - and I apologise for being so darned heavy in a Thingite thread.
All the best.
Lifson

For a Wibble - that was really quite a normal point of view (especially for a Thingite) and I must say, I tend to agree. As for Pricess Di, I couldn't stand the woman anyway and I do wish people would stop going on about her!
As for 11/09/01 - I think some sort of remembrance is fitting - but people should be able to do that in their own way and their own point in time.

Thanks. I was worried that I might spark off a bit of a controversy there, but at the same time - I felt I had to say it.

Morning all!
I wasn't concerned at all about how people commemorate 9-11, myself. My concern was the level of our alert. They upped it to high/orange yesterday because intelligence had the same kind of "chatter" they had last year on Sept 10 - The main reason for raising it was to put the general populace on a higher alert to try to prevent any terrorists from "commemorating" the date in a way they saw fitting for their cause (that is, more attacks). Not that most of us ever come in contact with terrorist types, but had the general populace been more aware of the possibility last year, perhaps the whole thing could have been prevented, or at least less devastating than it was.
It is still a sad day for this country to remember, however, and many of our citizens will be commemorating it in group ceremonies or privately.

I know - It's just that when a student at my college, with seemingly no connections to America, 9/11 or anything else asks me to ask the principle if the college are doing anything to commemorate it - I start to feel that the whole thing tends to get a bit out of hand.

Yankee-shoos, re: "hard to believe it's been a whole year", someone pointed out in Ask H2G2 that the Islamic year is a different length to the Western year, so if they were going to do something on the "anniversary" it would have been 11 days ago. One more example of the West's self-absorbed, parochial attitude...
