When I was beaten up due to my sexual orientation someone said to be that it was possibly just another reason to have a go at me - ie I could have been beaten up for any range of different reasons. However, I was beaten uop due to my sexual orientation. Not badly beaten but beaten up all the same and believe me it's not very nice to get attacked becuase of your sexual orientation, or for any reason for that matter.

and therefore all heterosexuals are to blame? News flash. We all get beaten up either literally or figuratively for a variety of reasons.

When I was in school I was beaten up by a large African American girl several grades above me - for no other reason than I was there and white. Or presumably white - to caucasian bigots I'm a half-breed. Do I blame all African Americans? Was it rampant African American apathy that led to my having the snot beaten out of me by someone far older and several times bigger than me? Of course not. It was one very sorry excuse for a human being beating me up because she was a worthless bigot.

Yes - there are gay bashings. Yes - there are racial bashings. Yes - there are religious bashings. Yes - there are "hey! you don't look at me and I'm a knuckle dragging moron and don't know any better so I think I'll hit you" bashings.

Quite so. Like the time I was beaten up simply for having long hair. They didn't like hippies and they thought I was a hippy because I had long hair, so they laid into me. But I haven't gone around since then thinking that anyone like the people who beat me up, hate me and anyone like me.

You're unlucky Rillington. I've only met one hetero who had an overt problem with my sexuality, and he took violent umbrage towards me. He, not I, was barred from the straight pub. My closest friends are straight (I just spent a fantastic weekend with a couple of them).

Most of my colleagues are hetero. None, to my knowledge, have a problem (yep, even the muslims!) If any *do* have problem they're keeping it to themselves, as I do about certain things. We all have our prejudices, it's what you do with 'em that counts!
