If you want to ride on escalators, EV, I think we can find some escalators for you. I mean if that's what you want.
I have to say that I could go bowling too. Almost as fun as Laser Quest.

Well, we did show that we're happy to be of assistance in your hunt for excalators, EV.

Frankly I've seen enough escalators for one year.

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook) Posted Jan 12, 2001
Let's not do escalators. Enough with life's little ups and downs already.
It's become clear from this thread that we're talking Edinburgh this time, but unless I missed it Babel, you haven't put it anywhere else?

Oops. Bound to have forgotten something. That's what comes of trying to set it up while at work, yesterday. Constantly minimising the window due to a very active boss lurking about is bound to cause the odd mistake or two.
Thanks SPINY, it has been rectified now, temporarily, until I do a revamp when I have a touch more time on my hands.

Something to do in February? There isnt that much to do I dont think, being very truthful. We could always go and do the historic things, but its probably nobodies real cup of tea at all.
How about that tour of the haunted close? St Mary's is it not? Where they locked people away to die if they had the plague. I've always wanted to do that!
erm. other than that, i think its bowling or Laserquest. Though I think there is somewhere where you can bowl or do a laserquest... Let me ask my brother. He may have a few other suggestions as well.

I switched to Alabaster for that very reason. They could spot Goo from three desks away. I also leave my email page open all the time because that's what everyone else does. It replaces h2g2 in milliseconds.

FC, nice ideas let me know about the Laser Quest/bowling thing. The closest I can think of is/was MARCO's Leisure Centre, which did have bowling, but changed to LQ, as far as I remember. It is @ Longstone, quite a way out of the centre. As far as i remember the Mary Kings Close is limited to 20 people.
No more, no less. We need that ammount to justify it.
SPINY, I hate Alabaster. Tried it for a while, but people at work, know I'm on here, so I just have to be careful. If it's quiet, I post. If not, I don't.
More suggestions people
We could take in the Camera Obscura. A bit bizzare, but worth a look.
Dynamic Earth is another one, but again, means walking/bus and the possibility of people getting lost on the way, not to mention, those who prefer not to stray too far from a friendly hostelry.

Do you still have the world's worst bagpiper outside of the Waverley Centre? Quite young, chanter falls out his mouth making no noticeable difference?

Tinkerbell *tumbleweed* Posted Jan 13, 2001
Hmmm 24th...is that in half term?
*wonders why she's asking that as it seems unlikely anyone will know*
Never mind
Hmmm...escalators...sitting...drinking...HA! The only answer is to go window shopping I mean it'd be a shame to ignore all the shops in Edinburgh when they really are so nice...That way everyone can go whatever age and those that want to sit can be left with bags...
*grins*
Or I could just go up a day early to do that and we could go laser questing for the meet-up

Given the choice of these two, laser quest suddenly sounds very attractive, but I still think there's something to be said for firing water pistols up bagpipers' kilts.

It's well known that Glasgow is better for shopping than "The other place", so howsabout I take a lot of pics of shop windows and you can look at them whilst we use bellows to puff itching powder up pipers' kilts?

Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.) Posted Jan 13, 2001
No, if we're going to annoy pipers, I suggest we split into groups of two. One person distracts the piper ("Hello, nice day, what's that over there?" *points*) whle the other bursts the bagpipes with a sharp penknife.

Whilst I go shopping
Anyway, what have you all got against pipers? Or is it just general havoc you wish to cause
General Banter and Idea Bandying
Wumbeevil Posted Jan 13, 2001
Good idea EV, but do we have enough members of the Bagpipe Resistance to accomplish these dual attacks. My thoughts were concentrated on stealthy solo attacks from the rear because "The other place" is crawling with these noisy beggars. I would even venture to say that they outnumber the Big Issue sellers.
It all comes down to the number of resistance fighters attending the meet. At the moment it looks like we're going to have to disable 37 bagpipers each to clear the city of this menace, so I'm not sure that dual attacks are an option.
Oh yes, could I take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of industrial strength ear protection whilst aproaching your targets . . . or walking in any direction, along any street as it's better known.

Philistines!!! What is it against pipers. I must say that FC is getting piped into the Kirk to 'Highland Cathedral' and I'm to come up with something Irish for us to get piped out to. So to all those who want to stealth bomb the pipers. It would be like returning to the days of William III when we were banned from the Kilt, the Pipes and being Scottish for crying out loud.

As for Mary King Close I'd love to go there having seen it On the Big Yin's World Tour of Scotland that is one place that has intrigued me. Ah well no doubt I'll get there at some point if not necessarily on the 24th especially seeing as my fiancee suggested the idea.
Key: Complain about this post
