DJ is off to check with someone less drunk than him what sort of food it was, but he reckons Sudanese, mildly spicy, flat bread and quite a lot of vegetables, especially aubergines.
Its nice to see we are discussing this, knowing full well, we'll (if we are lucky) only manage to stagger as far as a chippie for the fabled chips 'n' sauce of Auld Reeky.

Nile Valley is v.cool. I've been there a few times and it never fails to impress. They're very good at bringing huge quantities of mixed foods for large parties, and will happily put vegetarian stuff in the mix. Ask them to do the fish dish, which is outrageously good, and if they have any of their home made bread, that will delight as well.

Sudanese. Hmmm. Interesting didn't know there was a North African restaurant in Edinburgh mind you I don't live there YET!!! So it's always good to know.
So loads of Couscous then

Bleugh! Couscous, more like cat litter.
Looks like a divide is looming. I still vote for trying to find a pub that does decent grub, that way we won't have to move
There is a tendancy to lose people when we start to drift off to restaurants. But then perhaps that's what people want so...
whatever

Put me down for one of them thar empty calorie restaurants, and the cat litter could be used in the pub to avoid wasting good drinking time in the bogs, tho I think the Sarry Heid punters have copyright on that idea.
Besides, it's a well-known fact that eating in restaurants gives you cancer.

I reckon that there is no chance of us actually going to a restaurant. At least in a pub we can eat if we want when we want. And if past times are to go by, shouting across a pub is fine, shouting across a restaurant! Well, we could do that in Bar Napoli, but then they would expect that from me!
I really think we should stick to what we know. We wont behave! Ever! We may as well just find a pub and set up camp within!
ah dear. well, thats my 2p worth!

Okay, the bar thing sounds fine. Only question is (blame this on me being an actual local): Will the pub as a meal-point affect any minors' possibility of inclusion in the fun in any way? Not that there are any minors listed as people that will attend, but still. Just a thought....

Aren't we going to do something non-alcoholic in the afternoon? Maybe we can grab something to eat then, and save valuable drinking time later.

Lost in Scotland Posted Jan 23, 2001
That's kinda what I thought....

Fashion Cat Posted Jan 23, 2001
oh. well, surely the best thing to do is to decide what we want to do first in the afternoon. I checked with my bro, and the place I was thinking of is slightly out of town, and it has only virtual bowling, not real tenpin. so that's probably not so great.

Damn, thats another gone down the gutter. I'm bad at virtual bowling as well! Mind you, playing against a lawn bowls player doesnt help!

Maybe virtual bowling isn't such a good idea for a real-life meetup.

Its a virutal simulation as far as I can tell from what my bro has said. You put on a glove and carry out the motions as if you were bowling, and it plays it on a big screen in front of you. But if we want to bowl, theres the new one in the megaplex just off Princes St. Not too far out of town really.

Well, not to be ageist, but why not have anyone signing up declare if they're a minor, and then if no-one is, you don't have to restrict yourselves to non-pub activities?
But if you want to play it safe for younger people, I'm pretty sure the snooker rooms at Marco's Leisure Centre aren't restricted, and there's no finer way IMHO to enjoy drink and sport than having a pint while sinking those balls...

well, can you not take minors into a pub before 8pm anyway? and then they can stay so long as you have food surely? I think thats right anyway. So that doesnt necessarily restrict us, so long as we keep them on the light stuff!

So far, everyone who has signed up is of legal drinking age.
I will leave it for another couple of weeks, and then we can see who has signed up and make a decision then. But please keep punting ideas across.
