The "let's get drunk" bit sounds good to me. We'll have to try to get a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster DIY-kit for that meetup. We almost succeeded at the last meetup. We just need to get the right ingredients this time.

For Tinkerbell; Saturday 24th February.
For everyone else; Are your ideas sufficiently bandy yet then? Also, we should think of a starter (non-pub) activity. Do we want cultural or sporty? Or will we just give up and go to the pub (stop fooling yourself boy!)?

I think we should consider some sort of pre pub activity, because, if all goes well, there may be a few of our younger researchers along and I certainly do not want to exclude anyone from coming along.
I know it's been done before, but the 10-pin bowling at Fountainbridge is an idea. As per usual, you can get food and drink there, but would be fun for all. Or we could do something like Laser Quest (at Tollcross), if we get enough people to make up a couple of teams.
I would say, meet in town, somewhere central, maybe where we can get a coffee and it's warm and dry, then wait an allotted period for straglers, then move to some activity at a specific time, and on to a hostelry after that. If we have a properly thought out plan, then we can leave instructions for joining up with us at specific points in the day.

A capital plan! I vote for the Laser Quest as a change. We did bowling at the London meet only because nothing else could be arranged so we should try for some originality.

Laser Quest is good. I could go for Laser Quest.
I'm also trying to get a colleague to tag along to the meet. So that could be another one coming along.

Cool. Lets wait another couple of weeks before we make a decision, to see the sort of numbers that might turn up. Then we could take a vote.

I know that you did bowling in London, Munchkin, hence the reason I came up with an alternative. If it is Laser Quest, then that would mean no food/drink till after (apart from where we decide to meet up, of course smiley - winkeye)

Does Laser Quest have a "sitting around getting drunk while everyone else shoots each other" option, for anyone who might not want to take part?

Its more that things always seem to default to bowling. The whole of London to choose from and we bowled. Not that it wasn't fun mind. Unfortunately, trying ot think of something else that is sociable, yet open to all ages and creeds ain't easy.

Exactly, my point, Munchkin. But then this is the reason I want people to suggest ideas.

EV, of course there is a "sitting around getting drunk, while others are off shooting at each other" option. Unfortunately, I will probably have to do the "whatever we decide" option, rather than the "sitting drinking" option, because I cannot start organising something, and then not do it myself. I know which I'd rather be doing. smiley - sadface

I would suggest "Bar Skittles", but again that involves a pub. At least Bowling allows alcohol and young-uns to be present at the same time. Laser Quest is a fun alternative, but is definately not to everyone's taste. We need more suggestions. If there was a carnival handy, i'd say go there.

There isn't even an underground, so we can't go and play on the escalators. smiley - sadface

If it's escalators you want, EV, then Princes Mall (formerly Waverly Market) has some excellent ones to go up and down on.
My particular favourite is the one from the very top to the very bottom. It is 3 floors high smiley - winkeye
